BETH-LEHEM BIRTHDAY BASH a ‘50’s style Musical Comedy Dinner Theatre will be presented at the County Complex in Smithville on Friday December 12th at 6:30, Saturday December 13th with two performances - A matinee at 12:30 and an evening show at 6:30 PM.

Dinner and show is $15.00. Show only $10.00. Dinner tickets must be purchased in advance. Call Josh Isaac at (615) 318-2298 for tickets. They may be also be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office in the Courthouse.

This play is written and directed by Josh Isaac, and will be the kickoff presentation for a new season of community plays to be featured at the center this coming year and beyond. This play is performed by the First Assembly of God Drama Troupe, who are well known in the community for providing first rate entertainment in recent years. Proceeds of this event will help with expenses at the upcoming Fine Art competition for the teens of First Assembly.

Haven of Hope Grief Support Group Meeting

Justin Potter Library Supports Tennessee Promise Initiative

In support of the Tennessee Promise initiative, Justin Potter Library will commit to the following actions:

2. Dec. 4 through Jan 15, those computers and space can be used Thursdays from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the students' college applications.

3. Starting Jan 22 through Feb 26, TNPromise scholars can complete their eight hours of community service as volunteers at Justin Potter Library on Thursdays between the hours of 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

Permits Required during Fire Season

Tennessee’s fire season began October 15th and the Tennessee Division of Forestry wants to remind everyone that they must obtain a burning permit before doing any open burning. Only brush, leaves, grass, untreated or unpainted lumber or other natural plant residues can be legally burned. Burning permits can be obtained from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday by calling the DeKalb County office of the Division of Forestry at 597-4015. Burning permits can be obtained for small debris piles after hours and on the weekends by visiting Think before you burn.

DeKalb Middle School Chili Supper and Auction

DeKalb Middle School will have a Chili Supper and Auction on Saturday, November 22 starting at 4:00 p.m. The cake walk will be at 4:30 p.m. You may eat at the school or pick up a to-go tray. Tickets are $6 each. Students are encouraged to sell as many tickets as possible between now and November 14th. If they sell 5 tickets they will get a trip to the park. If they sell 12 they get an in school movie and popcorn day and if they sell 17 they will get both rewards.

Alexandria Fire Department Chili Supper and Coat Drive

The Alexandria Fire Department will have an All You Can Eat Chili Supper and Coat Drive on Saturday, November 22 from noon until 7:00 p.m. at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in the Kenneth Sandlin Center. Chili tickets are $8.00 for those age 13 and older and $4.00 for ages 7-12. Free for children under age 6. Enjoy All You Can Eat chili, crackers/cornbread, and a drink included. Please bring a coat to donate for a child in need.

This season's regulars are Dewain Hendrixson, Scott Brown, Chad Kirby, Jeff James, Ricky Atnip, John Pryor, Joe Goodwin, Darvin Gill, and Darrell Gill. A different special guest will make an appearance each week.

The "Fearless Forecasters" pick who they believe will win in fifteen of the biggest or most interesting college football games of the week.

They also make an underdog selection each week, picking a team they think will win, even though that team is not favored to win.

The program is sponsored by Liberty State Bank, DTC Communications, DeKalb County Ace Hardware, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, DeKalb County Insurance, DeKalb Tire and Service, Pizza Hut, and the Charles D. Atnip Realty & Auction Company.

L.B.J. & C. Accepting Applications for Head Start

L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children 3-5 years of age from low-income families in a full-day program. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. L.B.J. & C. Head Start helps all children succeed.

L.B.J. & C. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. The L.B.J. & C. Head Start recognizes that, as parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your children. They will welcome your involvement in L.B.J. & C. Head Start activities and will work as partners with you to help your child and family progress. Children who attend L.B.J. & C. Head Start participates in a variety of educational activities, receive free medical and dental care, free healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment.
