The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County, Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the UCHRA Office 726 S Congress Blvd, Smithville, TN
.
Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. To sign up or reprint lost commodities cards contact your local UCHRA office.

CAMP GOALS:
To provide each camper with a positive, fun-filled learning experience. The camp is designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball and give campers added game experience, while emphasizing teamwork and competition in a fun environment.

ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
Fee of $60.00 covers the entire cost of all instruction. Each additional child from a family will cost $30.00. Each camper will receive a T-shirt. Competitive contests will be held each day to allow campers to earn prizes and rewards. Campers will have the opportunity to compete against other players in game situations and shooting competitions. Camp will be divided into age groups and ability groups.

REGISTRATION:
You can register for camp June 1-3 at DCHS Gymnasium. Coach Martin and Coach Cope will be there from 8-5 on those days. Late Registrations will be June 15 at 7:30 AM and will cost $75.00. By registering early it allows 2 weeks to complete each campers shirt order.

The $60.00 MUST BE paid at time of registration.

UT Extension Canning Classes Offered

UT Extension Canning Classes Offered

The UT Extension office will be offering canning classes at the DeKalb County Complex kitchen during the month of June. Cost per class is $50 and covers all materials and supplies as well as the canning book So Easy to Preserve. The instructor for the classes will be UT Extension Agent Dr. April Martin. Classes will cover canning basics including using a water bath canner and pressure canner. Participants will make jelly, canned tomatoes and green beans. There are three dates to choose from:

Saturday, June 6: 9:30—4:00 P.M.
Thursday, June 11: 9:30—4:00 P.M.
Thursday, June 25: 9:30—4:00 P.M.

A minimum of 4 participants per class is required to hold each class. Payment must be received within 4 business days of the class.

Justin Potter Library’s 2015 Summer Reading Program “Every Hero Has a Story!”

Registration for the Summer Reading Club & Read-to-me Club begins on May 28th and will run through June 22nd. Children set their own reading goal and will receive a participation certificate.

Justin Potter Library’s program includes the following events:

•Thursday, May 28th at 2:00 pm – Explore the Science of Superheroes with our “Super Scientist” Mr. Rich
•Thursday, June 4th at 2:00 pm – Visit our Superhero Stations and become your own hero

•Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 am – Celebrate Hometown Heroes at National Get Outdoors Day

DeKalb Animal Coalition Presents "Fish on the Steeple"

DeKalb Animal Coalition Presents "Fish on the Steeple" with DeKalb County Historian Thomas G. Webb on Saturday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex, History Room. Admission is $10 per person. Light refreshments will be available. Proceeds from this evening's entertainment will go toward building a new animal shelter for our community. All contributions are tax deductible. Learn about the book that scandalized Smithville in the 1930's. Learn the identity of Smithville's citizens upon whom the books characters were based. Learn why the book was banned (and barred) in some circles. Take a look at 1930's Smithville.
