Tigers Can’t Hold On At Macon County

The DeKalb County Tigers dropped their first game of the season Friday night losing to Macon County at Lafayette 32 to 29.

The Tigers (1-1) and 0-1 in region play will travel to Watertown (1-2) Friday night, September 10. Kick-Off will be at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

Macon County struck first with 52 seconds left in the 1st period after Cameron Houston picked off a DC Quarterback Briz Trapp pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown. Bryson Higgins added the PAT and Macon County led 7-0.

DeKalb County tied the game at 7-7 with 9:12 left in the 2nd period as Colby Barnes scored on a 17 yard touchdown run capping a 56 yard Tiger drive. Axel Aranda tacked on the extra point.

On the ensuing kick-off after the DC touchdown, Cameron Houston raced 80 yards to put Macon County back on top 13-7 with 8:57 left in the 2nd period.

DC mishandled the ensuing kick-off and Macon County recovered at the DeKalb County 35 yard line. Macon County QB Braydee Brooks then found Cameron Houston on a 25 yard touchdown pass. The PAT attempt by Higgins was no good but Macon County extended its lead to 19-7 with 6:37 left in the 2nd period.

DeKalb County answered with 4:57 left in the first half on a 17 yard touchdown run by Isaac Knowles on a reverse completing a 57 yard Tiger drive and with Aranda’s extra point DC trailed 19-14.

DC grabbed the lead for the first time with 11:45 left in the 4th period as Quarterback Briz Trapp hooked up with John Ellis on a 28 yard touchdown pass. A 2 point conversion by Isaac Knowles was good and DeKalb County pulled ahead 22-19.

Macon County moved back out front 25-22 on a 63 yard touchdown scoring pass play from Braydee Brooks to Cameron Houston with 10:03 left in the 4th period. The PAT try by Higgins was no good.

DeKalb County took the lead again with 6:41 left in the game as Quarterback Briz Trapp scored on a 4 yard keeper. Axel Aranda added the extra point and DC led 29-25.

Macon County mounted a 75 yard drive late in the game and scored on 9 yard touchdown pass from Braydee Brooks to Zach Borders. Higgins converted the PAT and Macon County went on to claim a 32-29 victory.
