Smith County Takes Down Tigers and Lady Tigers

The DCHS basketball teams dropped a pair of games to Smith County Tuesday night at Smithville in their first meeting of the season.

The Lady Tigers lost in overtime 62 to 55 while the Tigers were defeated 76 to 66. Both DC teams are now 5-2 and will open their region schedule at home Friday night, December 10 against Stone Memorial.

The Lady Tigers trailed the Owlettes 9 to 8 after the 1st period but took a 22 to 17 lead by halftime. DC held a 42 to 40 edge after the 3rd period, but Smith County caught up in the 4th period sending the game into overtime tied at 53. From there the Owlettes outscored the Lady Tigers 9 to 2 to claim a 62 to 55 victory.

Ella Van Vranken led DC in scoring with 20 points followed by Natalie Snipes 11, Cam Branin 7, Madison Martin 6, Avery Agee 3, and Kadee Ferrell, Xharia Lyons, Ella Hendrixson, and Dare Collins each with 2 points.

The Tigers found themselves behind 17 to 15 after the 1st period, 35 to 34 at halftime, and 59 to 48 after the 3rd period before losing 76 to 66.

Stetson Agee scored 19 followed by Brayden Antoniak 18, Nathaniel Crook 10, Elishah Ramos 8, Jordan Young 6, and Robert Wheeler 5.
