Saints Thump Jackson County 42-0

DeKalb Saints Quarterback Briz Trapp hands off to Colby Barnes (shown in video clip below) for a short touchdown run late in the second quarter to give the home team a 28-0 lead over visiting Jackson County Thursday evening in Smithville. The Saints went on to win 42-0 putting their season record at 2-0. They will host Smith County next Thursday, August 23 at 6:30 p.m. for Homecoming.

DCHS Golfer Wins Early Bird Tournament

DeKalb County High School golfer Isaac Walker won the Early Bird Tournament Monday hosted by Cookeville High School at the Golden Eagle Golf Course.

Walker, a senior, carded a two under par 68 to beat a field of 77 golfers from 15 high schools.

The boys team finished 13th out of 15 teams. Jadyn Young shot 87, Ethan Jenkins 99, Justin Washer 106, and Chance Mabe 106.

In the girls division, Anna Chew, tied for 3rd out of 27 golfers with a seven over par 77. Chew, a junior had three birdies in her round.

“I am so proud of all of my golfers. They represent DeKalb County well,” said DCHS Golf Coach John Pryor. “Isaac played great today and has a bright future in golf. Anna has put in a of hard work and I feel it is paying off. If they continue to play like they did today they have a good chance to go to the state tournament,” said Coach Pryor.




Tiger Hunter Jennings Named District Pitcher of the Year

DCHS Tiger Hunter Jennings has earned the honor of Pitcher of the Year in District 8AA.

Five other Tigers have also been named to the All District Team including John Maynard, Logan Cornelius, Skyler Sparks, Brady Hughes, and Lee Randolph.

The Tigers concluded the year with a record of 16-12 and an 8-2 district finish




Tigerettes Claim Region Tournament Championship

The DCHS Tigerettes are Region Tournament Champs after beating Sequatchie County 4 to 1 on the road Wednesday evening.

DeKalb County scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and 1 run in the 6th inning. Sequatchie County scored 1 run in the 3rd inning.

The Tigerettes scored 4 runs on 9 hits and made no errors. Sequatchie County scored 1 run on 6 hits and made 1 error.

Kenzie France had a double and a single. Megan Walker had 2 singles and Jonie Robinson, Maddison Parsley, Allison Maynard, Kelly Roberts, and Kristena Bain all singled.

Kenzie France was the winning pitcher.

The Tigerettes will host Sweetwater in the Sub-State at a date and time to be announced.




Tigerettes Win District Tournament Championship

The DCHS Tigerettes have claimed the District Tournament Championship and will be hosting Marion County in the first round of the Region Tournament on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. in Smithville at the Danny Bond Field.

DeKalb County defeated Upperman 11 to 9 to take the title Thursday evening at Watertown.

The Tigerettes scored 11 runs on 12 hits and made 4 errors. Upperman scored 9 runs on 11 hits and made 1 error.

DeKalb County scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 5 runs in the 4th inning, and 1 run in the 5th inning.

Upperman scored 1 run in the 3rd inning, 3 runs in the 4th inning, 2 runs in the 6th and 3 runs in the 7th inning.

Emme Colwell was the winning pitcher. Kenzie France got the save.

Kenzie France had a grandslam homerun. Emme Colwell also had a homerun and a double. Jonie Robinson and Maddison Parsley each had a double and single. Megan Walker had a double and two singles while Kelly Roberts and Kristena Bain singled.
