Senior Tanner Poss was named the DCHS Tiger basketball Most Valuable Player Friday night at the annual team banquet, while Senior Lydia Brown received the Lady Tiger MVP honor. Senior Zoe Maynard is the Most Valuable Cheerleader. The awards were sponsored by Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. The MVP and MVC awards are named in memory of Allen D. Hooper.

In addition to being named MVP, Tanner Poss received an award as the team’s “Toughest” player and was recognized as having earned “Honorable Mention” in District 8AA. Poss was further honored late in the season for having scored 1,000 points in his high school career. A feat he actually achieved last year. Poss, a two time Tiger MVP winner, was sidelined for much of the year due to an injury. Had the injury not occurred, Tiger Coach John Sanders said Poss would most likely have attained even more awards especially at the district level. Poss first received MVP honors as a sophomore.

Along with having earned the MVP honor, Lydia Brown was recognized for having been named to the 2^nd Team All-District and 1^st Team All-Region.

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers wrapped up an historic season losing to Marshall County in the quarterfinals of the Class AA State Tournament at Murfreesboro last week. They closed out the campaign with a record of 23-12. It was the first State Tournament appearance for a DCHS girls team since 1965.

The season for the Tigers ended with a loss to Upperman in the District 8AA Tournament last month. The Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-23.

In addition to Lydia Brown, Emme Colwell, and Kadee Ferrell were named to the 1st Team-All Region. Ferrell also joined Brown on the All-District 2^nd Team and she (Ferrell) made the All-Freshmen Team. Emme Colwell was named to the 3^rd Team All-District and Mya Ruch made the All-Defensive Team.

Lady Tiger Coach Danny Fish received the District 8AA girls coach of the year.

Nathan Atkins was named to the 3^rd Team All-District and Dallas Cook and Tanner Poss received Honorable Mention. Cook was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Two Tiger pitchers combined for a no-hitter as DeKalb County routed Red Boilings Springs Wednesday 17-0 in Smithville.

Logan Cornelius started the game and struck out 4 through 3 innings. Daniel Puckett finished the game by striking out 2 through 2 innings.

The Tigers scored 17 runs on 10 hits and made 2 errors.

DeKalb County scored 1 run in the 1^st inning, 6 runs in the 2^nd, 1 in the 3^rd and 9 runs in the 4^th inning. Red Boiling Springs committed 1 error.

Cody Mea toed the rubber for Red Boiling Springs. He lasted 3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 11 runs while striking out 1. Kendall Thompson and Keaton Comer entered the game as relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively.

DC’s Derek Young and Colter Norris each had 2 hits while Grayson Redmon, Patrick Cantrell, Skylar Sparks, Logan Cornelious, Kolter Kilgore, and Luke Oliver each had a hit.

The DeKalb County Tigers opened the baseball season beating Sequatchie County 11-9 Tuesday in Smithville.

DC scored 11 runs on 11 hits and made 2 errors. Sequatchie County scored 9 runs on 10 hits and made 5 errors.

Skylar Sparks had 3 singles and 2RBI. Colter Norris, 2 singles and an RBI.  Logan Cornelious and Derek Young each singled and 2 RBI. Luke Oliver, Grayson Redmon, and Daniel Puckett singled  and Cody Antoniak doubled.

Colter Norris led things off on the pitcher’s mound for DeKalb County. He allowed 7 hits and 5 runs over 4 innings, striking out 8. He walked 2. Avery South came in and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits  and walked 1.  Cody Antoniak  gave up 1 run and 1 hit through almost three innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1.

Collin Hudson led things off on the mound for Sequatchie County. He lasted three innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs while striking out 3 and walking 1. Kollyn Cooper, the losing pitcher, gave up 3 runs on 1 hit. He struck out 1 and walked 2.

The Tigers scored one run on a stolen base in the 1^st inning. The Indians tied the game in the 3^rd but DC scored 3 more runs to grab a 4 to 1 lead after three innings. Sequatchie County  scored 4 runs in the 4^th inning to take a 5 to 4 advantage but the Tigers added 3 runs in the bottom of the 4^th to jump back out front 7 to 5. After the Indians scored 3 runs to take an 8 to 7 lead  the Tigers knotted the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one run on a stolen base. The game was tied at 8 with the Tigers  batting in the bottom of the 6th inning when Skylar Sparks singled, scoring two runs. The Tigers tacked on another run in the 6th and the Indians added one in the 7th but DeKalb County held on for the 11-9 win.

The DCHS Tigerettes Fast Pitch Softball Team dropped their season opener at Warren County Tuesday losing 11 to 1.

Warren County scored 11 runs on 13 hits and made 1 error. The Tigerettes scored 1 run on 6 hits and made no errors.

Jacey Hatfield, Megan Walker, Kenzie France, and Maddison Parsley each had a hit and Emme Colwell had 2 hits.

The Lady Pioneers scored seven runs in the sixth inning as Madison Hollis, Ashton Whiles, Maddie Cantrell, and Makenna Mason each had RBIs in the inning.

Hollis earned the victory in the circle for Warren County. She allowed four hits on one run over three innings. She struck out five and walked none.

Madison Whitehead took the loss for DeKalb County. She surrendered 11 runs on 13 hits over five and a third innings and struck out two.

Warren County belted two homeruns in the game including a four bagger for Whiles in the sixth inning and Hollis went deep in the fifth inning.

The Tigerettes were scheduled to host Watertown today (Thursday, March 14) but the game has been cancelled due to weather. No make-up date has yet been set.

The DCHS Lady Tigers were denied a trip to the State Tournament’s Final Four as they lost 34 to 31 to the Marshall County Tigerettes today (Wednesday) in the quarterfinals at MTSU.

Marshall County led 11 to 10 after the 1^st period, 19 to 12 at halftime and 27 to 23 after the 3^rd period before holding on for the 34 to 31 victory.

Lydia Brown had 16 points, Emme Colwell 6, Kadee Ferrell 4, Mya Ruch 3, and Maddison Parsley with 2 points.

The Lady Tigers season ends with a record of 23-12.

In other quarterfinals girls games today (Wednesday) Macon County defeated Covington 56 to 38, and Cheatham County beat Grainger 49 to 41. Macon County (30-5) will meet Cheatham County (28-3) in the state’s semi-finals Friday while Marshall County (26-7) will face either Westview or South Greene in the other semi-finals game Friday. The state championship game will be Saturday at MTSU
