Charles Bethel Williams

80-year-old Charles Bethel Williams of Alexandria passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday. Charles was born October 10, 1941 to the late J.B. and Haley Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Williams.

Charles was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all affectionately called him “Papa”. He was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria. He was a sports fanatic and a diehard Vandy fan, unless they were losing. He loved farming, horses, and working outside. He was employed at WorkWear Corporation until it closed and retired from DTC after 12 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Williams; daughter, Julie and son-in-law Jeff Young of Alexandria; granddaughter Chelsie and Michael Shaw of Lebanon; grandson, Charles Young of Alexandria and fiancé Morgan Bruce of Lebanon; great granddaughter, Ann Baleigh Shaw of Lebanon; brother Jimmy “Mutt” and Judy Williams of Gassaway; and a sister Betty and Bill Landrum of Lexington, Kentucky; extended family members Jacob and Crystal Young and children Madyson, Kylie, Hunter, and Lina of Spencer; Joey Hight and children Kayla, Zachary, and Ethan of Pennsylvania; nephew Marty and Kim Williams and children Macey, Molly and T. Wayne of Gassaway; niece Christy and Tommy Lackey; J.C. and Tyler Smith of Woodbury; niece Ashley and Ben Brown and son Carter of Short Mountain; and nephew Drew Baldinger of Lexington, Kentucky.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 101 Locust Street, Alexandria with Billy Friel officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Anderson’s Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to “Operation Christmas Child” at First Baptist Church, Alexandria in memory of Charles.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Roger McKinney and Family Medical of Lebanon, Bobbie Sue, Ashlyn and Tina of Avalon Hospice for the exceptional care shown to Charles and the family during his extended illness and final care.

Charles was loved and adored by many and will be dearly missed. Romans 8:18 “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us”.
