Albert Corley

December 27, 2022

80-year-old Albert Corley of Liberty, TN died Friday, December 23rd at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. The funeral will be 2:30 PM Friday, December 30th at Dekalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2:30 at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alva Burton Corley, brothers, Jack and Roy Burton Corley, a sister, Sue Willoughby, and a niece, Wendy Willoughby.
Survivors include a brother, Roger Corley of Smithville; Nephews, Mark Willoughby of Alexandria, and Mike Corley of Clarksburg, West Virginia and a niece, Pat Allen of Alexandria, and several cousins and friends. Dekalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jack Cantrell

December 27, 2022

Mr. Jack Cantrell, age 85, of Smithville, TN passed away on Sunday morning, December 25, 2022 at NHC in Smithville.

Mr. Cantrell was born on October 17, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to his parents, the late Bernard and Lillie Cantrell. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 56 years before passing in 2012, Nell Patterson Cantrell; stepmother, Ione Caplinger Cantrell; 2 brothers, Bernard Pascal Cantrell, Jr. and Waniford Cantrell. He was formerly an inspector at Carrier, in the National Guard, and a member of Tabernacle The Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 2pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Jack Patterson will officiate and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from noon – 8pm and on Wednesday from 11am- the service at 2pm.

Survivors include his 2 daughters, Tonya Joins of Gallatin and Deanna (Darryl) Counts of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Brandon (Stephanie) Joins of Gallatin, Derek (Brittainy) Joins of Castalian Springs, Jordan (Erika) Gash of Shelbyville, and Rachel (Kieran) Russell of Clute, TX; 5 great-grandchildren, Torryn Gash of Shelbyville, Jiraiya Russell of Clute, TX, Everly Joins of Castalian Springs, Issac Joins of Gallatin, and Cortlynn Joins of Gallatin.

A special thank you to the past and present staff of NHC in Smithville for the care they provided Mr. Jack for the past 19 years and treating him like family.

Lloyd Dale Dyer

December 26, 2022

72-year-old Lloyd Dale Dyer of Alexandria, a loving husband and father went to meet his Lord on December 23, 2022 when his heart was too weak to stay here. His last breath was taken at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. He was born in Baxter on June 23, 1950. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Dyer and Vestie Harris Dyer of Baxter; two daughters, Lisa Michelle Hieatt and Debra Denise Dyer both of Baxter; granddaughter, McKinsey Grace Cannon; great grandson, Bobby Quinn Phillips; and a nephew, James Brian Haggard. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Dyer and Billy Dyer of Baxter.

After graduating at Upperman High School in Baxter, Dyer went to work at TRW in Lebanon in 1971 and worked there for 41 years. It was during this time he joined the UAW local 342 of Lebanon. After finding the love of his life, Louise Burnett Dyer, he moved to Alexandria, and fell in love with the town and the people who lived there. Only wanting to help bring the town back to the way it was and more. He served on the town board as Alderman, Vice Mayor, and to his surprise, the current Mayor of Alexandria.

Lloyd left behind his wife of 38 years, Louise Burnett Dyer of Alexandria. A son, Brandon Lloyd (Mandee) Dyer of Liberty. Stepsons, James Keith Cannon, Jr (Rebecca Smith) of Cookeville and Tracy Allen (Leslie H.) Cannon of Smithville. A sister, Mary Nell (Eugene) Haggard. He also has 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 2 until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with interment at Hillview Cemetery.

Sue Wheeler

December 24, 2022

Sue Reeder Wheeler age 70 of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday night, December 22, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1952 to her parents, the late Alvie Allen and Lura Jean Shehane Reeder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eudean Wheeler, 2 sons, Donnie Lane and Lonnie Lynn Wheeler; 9 siblings, Johnny, Ed, Ricky, Timmy, Dennis, David, Jerry and Stevie Reeder and Janice Johnson. Sue was a retired factory worker and a member of the Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 daughter, Amy (Dave) Lowrance of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Brittany Wheeler, Tiffany Cota, Austin Lowrance, Shawnee Lowrance, Isabella Lowrance, Kyra Lowrance, and Harley Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jasmine Gallegos and Grabriella Williams; 2 brothers, Bug Reeder and Tony Reeder both of Smithville; 2 sisters, Peggy (Dan) Parks of Kingston, NH and Lisa Vice of Smithville and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be 2:PM Thursday, December 29, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bernard Houk and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday December 28, 2022 12 Noon until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




James Clayton Parsley

December 23, 2022

James Clayton Parsley age 89 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday morning at NHC HealthCare in Smithville. He was born March 19, 1933 to his parents, the late Alvie Vester and Jocie Evelyn Tittsworth Parsley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Parsley and sister, Nina Johnson Rhody. Clayton was a member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church, he worked at Ford for 35 years, farmer and served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years. He is survived by 4 sons, Donnie Parsley of Nashville, Ted Parsley of McMinnville, Ricky Parsley of Nashville and David Scott Parsley of Nashville; step-son, Jason Parsley of Panama City, FL; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Vester Parsley of Smithville; 4 sisters, Reba Patton of McMinnville, Jerrie Paone of GA, Judy Mundt of Texas, Penny Bolton of Murfreesboro and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3 PM Wednesday December 28, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 3 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Patsy Ann Jones

December 23, 2022

Patsy Ann Jones, age 91, of Dickson, TN, (formerly of Liberty, TN), passed away peacefully at her daughter’s house on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Patsy was born September 19, 1931, in Temperance Hall, Tennessee, to the late John Wesley and Gertrude (Williams) Tubb. She is the youngest of six siblings. She retired from Work & Wear Manufacturing in Alexandria, TN. She is also a member of the Mt. Zion Church. She loved her family; she loved to crochet, and she loved living on her farm and vegetable gardening.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carolyn (Donnie) Spann of Dickson, TN; granddaughters, Carla Spann (Eric Sease) of Bellevue, TN, and Keri (Joel) Howell of White Bluff, TN; great-granddaughter, Greta Howell of White Bluff, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wiley Roy Jones, Jr., brothers, Jack and Joe Tubb; and sisters, Lizzie Nixon, Jonnie Spence, and Lois Spencer.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be at DeKalb Funeral Chapel on Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM.
