Lee Hendrix

March 2, 2019

29 year old Lee Hendrix of Smithville passed away Friday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of  Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Jordan Atnip and Chad Ramsey will officiate.  Visitation will be Sunday from noon until the time of the service at 4 p.m. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Berlie and Ruby Hendrix and great grandmother Freda Cantrell. Survivors include his parents, Farron and Gayla Hendrix of Smithville. Sisters, Ali Hendrix of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and Abigail Hendrix Wilbur and her husband Matthew of Smithville. Grandparents, Freddy and Linda Colvert and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, you may make donations to Haven of Hope or to the DeKalb County Recovery Court.




Melody Jeanene (Roller) Pharris

March 1, 2019

Melody Jeanene (Roller) Pharris, 56 of Silver Point, Tennessee passed from this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.
Melody was born Wednesday, February 27, 1963, in McMinnville, Tennessee.  She was the daughter of the late Samuel Adams and Phyllis (Green) Roller.
Melody cherished her husband of many years, Pat (Bozz) Pharris.  She treasured her family and friends.  Melody had a great love for being outdoors and had a genuine passion for flowers.  She was deeply religious and spread love everywhere she went.  Her family asks for continued thoughts and prayers for the days to come.
Melody is survived by:
Husband, Patrick “Bozz” Pharris; Brother, Randy and Paula Roller; 3 Sisters, Tracy and Stuart Brown, Thena Edwards and Tony Fuston, and Angie and Michael Ellis; 2 Brother in Laws, Dale and Glenda Pharris, and Eddie and Gayle Pharris; Aunt, Vivian Sinks; Grandfather, Arthur Page; 2 Step-Daughters, Shawna and Ben Owens and Krisheena and Blake Dishman; 3 Grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Brienna and Brody Owens; and Many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Melody was preceded in death by Mother-in-law, Ressie Pharris; and Grandparents, Theopolis and Beatrice Green, and Robert and Nellie Roller.
Melody chose cremation, the family followed her wishes and a Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.

James Carey “Jim” Hawk

February 27, 2019

James Carey “Jim” Hawk, age 79 of Smithville, TN and native of Panama City, FL, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1940 in Chipley, FL to his parents, the late Carey Judson Hawk and Janie Watford Hawk Helland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Hawk Phillips. Jim attended Bay County High School in Panama City, FL and graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Building Construction in 1963. While at Auburn he was active in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as treasurer. During his career as a project manager, he led the construction of many hospitals, office buildings, and churches. Jim started his career with Henry C. Beck in Atlanta and later moved to Nashville to oversee the construction of what was known then as the National Life building. Upon completing that project, he desired to stay in Nashville and began working for Joe M. Rodgers and Associates. In 1979, Jim co-founded American Constructors – a general contractor and construction management firm in Nashville. After retiring from construction in 1989, Jim moved to Smithville where he enjoyed his family, fishing, and faith. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Algood, TN. Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Ann Hawk of Smithville; 2 daughters, Helen (Jason) Morse of Smithville and Sarah (A.J.) Swafford of Fosterville, TN; 8 grandchildren, Evan and Summer Morse, Isaac, Caleb, Anna, Rachel, David and Lydia Swafford; 1 brother, Gerald F. (Kay) Hawk of Birmingham, AL; 1 sister, Shirlea Hawk Caswell of Fairhope, AL. There will be a private family graveside service held at Gath Cemetery. A public visitation will be held 2 PM until 4 PM Sunday, March 3, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice. John Edward Adamson

February 27, 2019

John Edward Adamson age 89 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, February 26, 2019 at his residence.  He was the son of the late, Owen and Georgia Adamson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Geneva Shoemake and Frances Adamson.  John was a member of New Home Baptist Church and a retired salesman.  He is survived by his wife, Shelia Adamson of Smithville; 2 step-daughters, Martha (Richie) Knowles of Smithville, Mary (Mark) Fritts of Soddy Daisy; 3 step-grandchildren, Gabriel (Kylee) Knowles, Hannah Knowles, Whitney Jacobs; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Shelby and Shiloh Jacobs; 2 special pets, Jazz and Max.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale and Richie Knowles officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday 10AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements




Henry A. Hensley

February 25, 2019

Henry A. Hensley age 70 of Smithville, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2019 at his residence.  He was born July 24, 1948 to his parents, the late Zollie Ray and Fannie Jewel Terry Hensley.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Johnnie Hensley, Cap Hensley, Barbara Ruth Griffin, Charles Hensley, Elizabeth Martin and Ray Hensley.  Henry was a retired factory worker and a Baptist.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hensley of Smithville; 3 daughters, Maggie (Reece) Tramel, Sandra Farless and Loretta (Timmy) Hendrixson all of Smithville; son, Joe Marshall of Sparta; 8 grandchildren, James Tramel, Amanda Tramel, Hope Farless, Breanna Campbell, Tiffini Hoke, Dakota Flynn and Dalton Marshall; 5 brothers, Tommy (Peggy) Hensley of Sparta, Ganies (Vicki) Hensley of Tampa, FL, David (Donna) Hensley of Monterey, Jerry (Roxie) Hensley of Sparta and Danny Hensley of Smithville; 1 sister, Carolyn Young of Cookeville and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted 1 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Clayborn officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 1 P.M. until  8 P.M. and Thursday 9:AM until the time of the service at 1 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Mary Robinson Washer

February 25, 2019

Mary Robinson Washer age 86 of Smithville, went home to be with the lord on Saturday February 23, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Center.  She was born November 24, 1932 to her parents, the late Clifton and Ethel Hullett Robinson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Tom Washer; a son, David Clifton Washer; 3 brothers, Edward Robinson, Charles Robinson and Carl Robinson; 3 sisters, Calysta Pedigo, Delia Foutch and Lois Williams; sister-in-law, Jorene Parsley.  Mary was a member of the Jacob’s Pillar United Methodist Church and a retired factory worker and homemaker.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 children, Danny (Joan) Washer and Lisa (Frankie) Young both of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Keith) Phillips, Adam Washer, David Travis Shockley, Relley Yott, and Matthew Yott; 3 step-grandchildren, Lori Panter, Jennifer Knott and Brandon Evans; 5 great-grandchildren, Molly, Pheobe and Henry Phillips, Haylie and Peyton Washer; 2 sisters, Omega Hayes and Jo (Jesse) Baker both of Smithville; brother, Brisco (Jean) Robinson of Smithville; brother-in-law, Paul Parsley of Smithville; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be 11:AM Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Royce Martin and Doyle Slager officiating and burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Monday 4:30 PM until 8 PM and Tuesday 9 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jacob’s Pillar United Methodist Church, in memory of Ms. Mary.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  The family also appreciates the staff of NHC Healthcare Center for the care given to Mary.
