Henry Ray Walker

Henry Ray Walker age 74 of Alexandria, died Wednesday afternoon at Vanderbilt-Wilson Hospital in Lebanon. Born July 21, 1946, Henry was the son of the late James Wesley Walker and Sophie Charlotte Sissom Walker and was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Walker Eddins and her husband, Robert. Henry was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. A devoted Christian, he was married to his loving wife, Veda for 51 wonderful years. He retired after 37 years from DTC. He loved being outside and working hard with his hands. In the past several years he enjoyed the mornings spent playing with his rook partners. Henry was a member of Prosperity Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Veda Allen Walker; son, Mark Walker and his wife, Vicky of Alexandria; daughter, Holly Brown and her husband, Billy of Gladeville; grandchildren, Hailey (Jordan) Blackburn, Brett Allen Walker, Wyatt Walker Brown, Charles (Amber) Brown; brothers, Robert Walker of Bethlehem, GA, Jerry (Opal) Walker of Lafayette, Roy (Rhonda) Walker of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at Prosperity Baptist Church with Bro. Thurman Seber and Bro. David Moody officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 10 a.m. till service time on Wednesday. Pallbearers, Chris Blackburn, Tim Reed, Dave and Daniel Buterbaugh, Alan Hayes, Nick Nokes, Jr., Scott and Tim Walker. Interment at Hillview Cemetery, Alexandria. HUNTER FUNERAL HOME, Watertown.




J.B. Taylor

Mr. J. B. Taylor, age 103 of Alexandria, TN, passed away Tuesday morning, September 22, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Taylor was born on March 24, 1917 in the Indian Creek community of Smithville to his parents, the late Chess & Willie Fuson Taylor. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Ruth Beckwith Taylor, infant daughter, Diana Taylor & siblings, Clyde Taylor, Colleen Snyder, Clara Nell Taylor, Obel Taylor, Willie Joe Taylor & 2 infant siblings. J.B. was born and raised on Indian Creek and lived there until the 1940s at which time construction had begun on the Dam to form Center Hill Lake. He and his family then moved to Alexandria where he would reside for the next 70 years. Mr. Taylor was a lifelong farmer. He was the oldest living member of Indian Creek Memorial Baptist church and had served as a deacon for over 40 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy (Eddie) Fuson of Smithville, TN. Grandson, Zachary (Leigh) Fuson of Alexandria, TN. Great Grandson, Landon Fuson of Alexandria, TN. Nieces & Nephews, Faye (Nelson) Gilreath of Smithville, TN, Linda Neal of Smithville, TN, Cathy Stem of Lascassas, TN, Dianne Myers of Lascassas, TN, Roger (Mae) Snyder of Maryville, TN, Kenny (Dorothy) Snyder of Caryville, TN & Perry (Shirley) Snyder of Mississippi. 2 Sisters-in-law, Marguerite Jones of Liberty, TN & Linda (Fred) Stanley of Donelson, TN. 1 Brother-in-law, W.J. (Jane) Tramel of Alabama. Several Cousins also survive. The family would like to say thank you to all the friends and neighbors who helped care for J.B. in the last several months.

Mr. Taylors remains rest at the Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where funeral services are scheduled to be conducted on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 2pm at the Indian Creek Baptist Church in Smithville. Elder James T. Gibbs, Bro. Terry Fesler & Bro. Ric Lee will officiate with burial to follow at Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, September 24th from 3pm-8pm at Avant Funeral Home and on Friday, September 25th from 10am until the service time at 2pm at the church. At this time we are not accepting food in the funeral home kitchen facilities.

William Harvey Dunn

September 23, 2020

Mr. William Harvey Dunn, age 96 of Smithville, TN passed away Tuesday evening, September 22, 2020 at NHC of Smithville.

Mr. Dunn was born on August 6, 1924 in DeKalb County to his parents, the late John & Helen Pedigo Dunn. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Charlene Cantrell Dunn and his brothers, James Dunn, Lonnie Dunn, Gene Dunn & 2 infant siblings. Mr. Dunn served his country in the United States Army as a Medic during the 2nd World War. He attended the Center Hill Brethren in Christ Church and was retired from Chrysler Corp. after 25 years of employment. He also loved going to Flea Markets and hanging out and the local McDonalds with his friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 2pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with burial to follow at Burton-Ponder Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 28th from 3-8pm and on Tuesday, September 29th from 11am until the service time at 2pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are temporarily not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail (Marlin) Gill of Angola, IN. Son, William Barry Dunn of Detroit MI. Grandchildren, Hal (Janette) Stilson, Angela (Joshua) Beavers, Andrea (Jeremiah) Taylor & Melissa. Several Great Grandchildren also survive.




Judy Faith Daniel

Mrs. Judy Faith Daniel, age 70 of Smithville, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Judy was born on September 12, 1950 in Michigan to her parents, the late Alvie and Lawanda Church Herman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Daniel.  She was a retired nurse and was a member of Mt. Moriah The Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2 pm from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Nick Pelham and Bro. Leonard Herman will officiate with burial to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, September 19th from 5pm until 8pm and on Sunday, September 20th, from 10am until the service time at 2pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are temporarily not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Survivors include 2 Daughters, Amanda (Scott) South of Smithville and Breeann (Chad) Hale of Woodbury; 3 Grandchildren, Avery South and Gracin South of Smithville and Shelby Grace Hale of Woodbury; and 1 Brother, Sam Herman of Liberty.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Betty Cantrell Hale

Mrs. Betty Cantrell Hale, age 83 passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at her daughters home in Lebanon, TN.

Betty was born on October 16, 1936 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late Hamp & Effie Pack Cantrell. Also preceding her in death are 4 Brothers, James “Lucky” Cantrell, Ray Cantrell, Floyd Cantrell, Junior Cantrell and 1 Sister, Mildred Green. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. E. Dwayne Blair will officiate with burial to follow at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, September 19th from 10am until the service time at 1pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are temporarily not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Imogean Cantrell

September 16, 2020

Imogean Cantrell age 96 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, September 15, 2020 at her residence. She was born November 7, 1923 in Comanche, Texas to her parents, the late Thomas Holmsley and Lola Bell Adams Douglas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Cantrell; daughter, Jennifer Lee Huffman; granddaughter, Jennifer (Alan) Clark; 2 sisters, Juanita Wright, Billye Teague; brother, Gene Douglas; nephew, Tommy Banks. Ms. Imogean was a member of Phillipi Church of Christ, owned and operated Cantrell’s Jewelry from 1949-2011. She was a former member of Eastern Star, B&P W Club, and the Jewelers Board and Trade. She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 daughter, Tammy (Ronnie) Mollinet of Smithville; son-in-law, Marcus Huffman of Auburn, KY; 6 grandchildren, Kristy (Chris) Williams of Smithville, Megan (Brian) Cherry of Auburn, KY, Crystal (Jason) Williams of Gulf Shores, AL, Angela (Jeff) Estes of Arkansas, Ryan (Laci) Mollinet of Dowelltown and Brandi (Travis) Johnson of Smithville; great-grandchildren, Dakota (Eric) Adcock, Leah and Morgan Clark, Caroline and Alanah Williams, Max, Landon and Lila Mae Cherry, Alexis and Kinsley Williams, Katie and Kevin Crump, Kaleb, Kase and Cali, Jaidyn Huggins, Dexton Emberton, Cannan Johnson, Grayson and Addi Mollinet; special niece, Vickie (Steve) Jenkins of Texas. Funeral services will be 4 PM Friday, September 18, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 4 PM. Due to Covid-19, the Governors Executive Orders and Social Distancing Guidelines, our pews are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow approximately 100-125 for the service. We ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The funeral home lounge is closed and No food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home at this time. The service will be live-streamed at DeKalb Funeral Chapel Facebook page. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
