Traffic Violations Result in a Drug Charge for Motorist

A motorist stopped for a couple of traffic violations last week was found with methamphetamine.

52 year old Curtis Lee Adams of Midway Road, Smithville is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond is $3,000 and he will make a court appearance May 13.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on April 26 a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department deputy was on patrol in the Midway Road area when he spotted a man operating a white Jeep wearing no seat belt and the driver side brake light was inoperable. He pulled over the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Adams. The deputy warned Adams about the seatbelt and brake light infractions and then asked and received consent to conduct a search. Adams was found to have a baggie which held a white crystal like substance that weighed 0.48 grams believed to be meth. Adams was placed in custody and transported to the jail.

37 year old Ryan Lee Walden of Dale Ridge Road, Dowelltown is charged with evading arrest and possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He is being held without bond.

Sheriff Ray said that on April 27 a deputy went to a residence on Dale Ridge Road to serve a child support attachment on Walden. Upon arrival he found Walden sitting on the porch. When told there was a warrant for his arrest, Walden replied that he was not going back to jail and took off running through the woods but he was quickly apprehended. A search incident to arrest revealed a baggie in his right pocket which held 0.5 grams of a crystal like substance believed to be meth. Walden was then taken to the jail.

40 year old Brandon Edward Smith of Cooper Street, Smithville is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond is $10,000 on the drug charge but he is being held without bond for a failure to appear warrant against him. Smith will make a court appearance on May 13.

Sheriff Ray said that on April 28 a deputy went to a residence on Floyd Drive to serve an arrest warrant on Smith. Upon arrival the officer found Smith sitting in his vehicle in the driveway. He walked up to the automobile and asked Smith to get out because there was an arrest warrant against him. As Smith stepped out of the automobile, the deputy noticed that he had a glass pipe with a white crystal like residue on it. The officer searched the vehicle and found a clear baggie containing a white crystal like substance by the driver seat which weighed about 1.3 grams. Smith was transported to the jail.

36 year old Megan Angela Yslas of Fiddlers Drive, Smithville is charged with driving under the influence. Her bond is $1,500 and she will be in court June 24.

Sheriff Ray said that on April 29 a deputy was dispatched to a call on Floating Mill Lane due to a possible domestic incident. Upon arrival he found Yslas lying in the driver seat of her vehicle. She was trembling and wore no pants. After being asked to exit the automobile, Yslas said she drove her car to the day area trying to turn around. She submitted to field sobriety tasks but performed poorly.

22 year old Quinton Lynn Adcock of McMinnville is charged with aggravated criminal trespass and vandalism. His bond is $3,000 and he will make a court appearance on June 24.

Sheriff Ray said that on March 21 Adcock broke into property on Aaron Webb Road and damaged a window and gate. The total amount of the damage was $200. The case was investigated by sheriff’s department detectives.

36 year old Amanda Gail Maxwell of Fisher Avenue, Smithville is charged with public intoxication. Her bond is $1,500 and she will be in court May 13.

Sheriff Ray said that on April 30 a deputy was dispatched to the Loop Circle to do a welfare check. Upon arrival he found Maxwell in the front yard of the complainant. Maxwell appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and she was unsure of her surroundings. She was placed under arrest.

31 year old Bobby Ray O’Conner, Jr. of Cookeville Highway, Smithville is charged with failure to appear and violation of bond conditions. His bond is set at $10,000 on the violation but he is being held without bond for failure to appear. His court date on the violation is May 13.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 1 a deputy was patrolling the lake access area of Hurricane Bridge when he stopped to check on a vehicle in the parking lot. The officer approached the automobile and spoke with O’Conner and a female. A background check through central dispatch revealed that O’Conner was under bond conditions to keep away from this woman. O’Conner was then placed under arrest.

35 year old Charlie Chad Barnes of Rock Island is charged with a 9th offense of driving on a suspended license. His bond is $5,000 and he will be in court May 13.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 2 a deputy was on patrol in the area of Murphy Street when he spotted Barnes driving a gold colored Lincoln car. Knowing that Barnes’ license were suspended, the officer conducted a traffic stop and placed Barnes under arrest.
