Pickers and dancers anxious for their moment on stage before an audience of thousands will soon be in town for the 47th annual Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival which starts Friday morning downtown.

Gary Cassity and Keith Oler are already here. They arrived in town Tuesday after making the 250-300 mile trip from their home in Murphy, North Carolina. They both attended their first Jamboree in Smithville last year and Oler took home the grand prize in the Mountain Dulcimer competition. He plans to defend his title this year.

Cassity, a guitar picker, said he is looking forward to another great Jamboree. When asked about his impressions of last year’s festival, Cassity said “it was awesome”

Jamboree fans can see and hear Cassity and Oler perform Friday and Saturday at the First United Methodist Church Christian Fellowship Center from around lunch time until 3 or 4 p.m. Come enjoy the delicious food too!
