After back-to-back wins, former DeKalb County High School standout Steven Jennings lost his final game of the year Sunday night, giving up five runs (3 of which were earned) in five innings.

The loss brought his Single-A Greensboro season total to 7-12 with a 4.71 earned run average. The 20 year old Jennings pitched 130 innings for the year, giving up 68 earned runs, while striking out 115 batters and walking 39.  The batting average against Jennings was .269.

Sunday’s loss followed two wins in which Jennings gave up only one run and nine hits.  Following the late season victories, Jennings’ pitching coach had  praise for the DCHS product.

He’s doing a nice job of finishing off the season,” said pitching coach Stan Kyles, on the teams web site. “He’s got a better foundation which enables him to finish off his pitches better. He could have thrown in the towel on this season, but he has hung in there and rebounded well.”

Jennings was a 2017 early second round pick of the Pittsburg Pirates. He pitched in Rookie ball his first two seasons.  The Greensboro team is a Single-A affiliate of the Pirates.
