The DeKalb Middle School golf welcomed 4 area teams to the Smithville Golf Course on Tuesday. Visiting were Smith County, Watertown, Winfree Bryant and Walter J Baird.

In the boys matches DeKalb came out on top followed by Smith County, Walter J Baird and Winfree Bryant. Watertown did not field a boys team.

Competing for the local squad were Bradley Hale, Cooper Goodwin, Jamison Troncoso, Lee Tramel and Turner Bryant. Troncoso took medalist honors with an impressive score of 44 for the nine holes. Only one of the other golfers managed a score lower than 50.

For the DeKalb girls team, Chloe Boyd and Emily Anderson played. They tied for second with Smith County falling 1 stroke short of Winfree Bryant. Watertown finished fourth. Walter J Baird did not compete.

It was an impressive sight to see more than forty young golfers with their entourages of fans spread out over the course which was in a competitive state of readiness thanks to the diligent efforts by course manager Jeania Cawthorn and Jimmy Lewis and his crew after heavy rains earlier in the day.
