Tennesseans in Phase 1c of the state’s plan are now eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccination

The Tennessee Department of Health has updated Tennessee’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan as the state continues to prioritize Tennesseans most at risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

Tennesseans in Phase 1c of the state’s plan are now eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccination along with those in the 1a1, 1a2, and 1b phases.  Those in Phase 1c are Tennesseans age 16 and older with high-risk health conditions including pregnancy, and parents and caregivers of medically fragile children and those with complex congenital heart disease.

At last report doses of the Moderna vaccine were available in Smithville at the DeKalb County Health Department, F.Z. Webb & Sons Pharmacy, Johnny’s Drugs, and Walmart.

Meanwhile DeKalb County reported  41 active cases of  COVID-19 Wednesday, March 10 including 3 new cases according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

Over the last seven days, DeKalb County had a case count of 21 for a daily case rate of 14.6 per 100,000 residents and the average positive percentage  over the last week was 5.6%.

The COVID-19 related death count in DeKalb County is 51 since last March and 51 have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 within the last year

The total number of confirmed or probable cases of COVID 19 in DeKalb County since March stands at 2,680 and 2,588 are now inactive or have recovered.

Protecting Adults and Children with High-Risk Health Conditions
Phase 1c of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan includes Tennesseans age 16 and older with
high-risk health conditions including pregnancy, and parents and caregivers of medically fragile
children and those with complex congenital heart disease. Tennessee’s COVID-19 Vaccination
Plan has been updated to include the following groups among the Phase 1c populations:
• Permanent household members age 16 and older living with pregnant women
• People age 16 years and older with diagnosed diabetes
• People age 16 years and older with Down Syndrome
• People age 16 years and older with progressive neuromuscular diseases such as ALS,
multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy

Prioritizing Age-Based Risk
Age-based criteria run concurrently to the risk-based phases. Tennessee continues vaccinating those age 65 and older in addition to those eligible for COVID-19 vaccination based on risk categories. The estimated timeline and phases of Tennessee’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan are preliminary and subject to additional changes pending further recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and other federal and state partners.

Tennesseans may find vaccination providers in their area by visiting VaccineFinder.org. Book an appointment for COVID-19 vaccination through your county health department at COVID19.tn.gov. As of today, there are nearly 480,000 appointments available in the system for COVID-19 vaccination across the state. Emergency Naloxone Reversal Training
Opioid Overdose continues to claim lives. One way to prevent opioid overdose deaths is to learn how to respond in this medical emergency. Time is critical but Naloxone is an emergency medication that has the potential to save lives and restore breathing until EMS arrives.

The DeKalb Prevention Coalition has been made aware of an increased number of overdoses in DeKalb County within the past few days. With this information the DPC has scheduled an Emergency Naloxone Reversal training.

You are urged to participate in this emergency life-saving training Thursday, March 11 from 5-7 p.m. under a tent in the parking lot of the County Complex sponsored by the DeKalb Prevention Coalition in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Upper Cumberland Regional Overdose Prevention Specialists Suzanne Angel and Colby Lane.

Narcan training is free and in less than 15 minutes community members can learn how to use this emergency medication to restore breathing to someone having an opioid overdose until EMS arrives.

DeKalb County Grand Jury to Meet
The next term of the DeKalb County Grand Jury will meet on Monday, March 29th, 2021, pursuant to T.C.A. 40-12-105.

“It is the duty of your grand jurors to investigate any public offense which they know or have reason to believe has been committed and which is triable or indictable in the county. Any person having
knowledge or proof that an offense has been committed may apply to testify before the grand Jury subject to the provisions of Tennessee Code Annotated 40-12-105. The foreman in this county

Rose Announces March Local Office Hours
Every month, U.S. Representative John Rose’s (TN-6) district staff hold a series of local office hours for constituents to connect directly with caseworkers and receive assistance with federal agencies. Due to previous COVID-19 restrictions, local office hours were temporarily suspended, but will resume in March and be held in Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Overton, Pickett, Robertson, Smith, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties.

During the local office hours, district staff will be available to answer questions and assist constituents with federal casework, such as social security and veterans benefits, steps for obtaining a passport, and more. Local office hours occur monthly, if you have questions, please contact one of Representative Rose’s offices so a staff member may help you.

DeKalb Board of Education to Meet
The DeKalb County Board of Education will meet in regular monthly session Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Ernest Ray Education Center.

The Board will consider and act on making an addendum and extending the current Director of School’s contract. His current contract runs through June 30, 2022.

The agenda also includes action on Board Policies on 1st reading and a personnel report from the Director of Schools. Plus any other business that may properly come before the Board by a Board Member.

The consent agenda includes approval of a DeKalb Middle School fundraiser request, approval of a DCHS FFA fundraiser request, approval of a UTrust budget amendment, and approval of a CSH budget amendment.

Whorton Springs Baptist Church to host Youth Evangelism Conference Watch Party
The Whorton Springs Baptist Church on McMinnville Highway will have a Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) Watch Party on Saturday, March 13 from 5:00 p.m. until after the church service the following day.
