The Upperman Bees and Lady Bees came to Smithville, Tuesday night, and blistered the DeKalb County High School basketball teams in their district openers. The Lady Bees shook off a slow start, and thumped the Lady Tigers, 73-24, while the Bees blew open the boys' game in the second half, and blew out the Tigers, 72-48.
The Lady Tigers played toe-to-toe with Upperman for most of the first period, and the DC girls rallied from an early deficit to tie the game at 8-8, late in the period. The Lady Bees closed out the period on a 5-1 run, to take a 13-9 lead. The game would not get any closer, however, as Upperman out-scored DeKalb, 29-8, in the secon period. The Lady Tigers would not connect on another field goal until the final 1:08 of the fourth period, and Upperman cruised to victory.
