Kaycie Ferriss almost single-handedly took down the DeKalb County High School Lady Tiger basketball team, Tuesday night in Smithville, while the Tigers took out the Owls in the nightcap for their second straight district win.
Ferriss, the 6-foot-8 sophomore sensation, scored 35 points, 26 in the first half, as the Lady Owls scored a 47-39 victory. Ferriss scored 18 points in the first period, as Smith County rolled out to a 20-10 lead. Cynthia Woodward hit a three-pointer to end the first half, as the Lady Owls carried a 28-19 lead into the locker room.
Ferriss did not score in the third period, but the DeKalb girls made up very little ground. The Lady Tigers earned a 7-6 advantage in the period, but Smith County still led, 34-26, at the end of the third. DeKalb County got as close as six points in the game's final minute, but Ferriss and Lindsey Angel sealed the win for the Lady Owls at the free throw line, combining to hit 5-of-6 in the closing seconds.
