DeKalb County Tiger Baseball Schedule

The DeKalb County High School Tiger Baseball season begins Tuesday March 16th at Eagleville. The game gets underway at 4:00 p.m.

This season's home games are as follows:

March 18th vs Red Boilings Springs at 5:30 p.m.
March 23rd vs Upperman
March 25th vs Gordonsville (JV) at 4:00 p.m.
March 30th vs Smith County at 5:00 p.m.
April 2nd vs Gordonsville at 12:00 p.m.
April 5th vs Livingston at 5:00 p.m.
April 8th vs White County at 5:00 p.m.
April 13th vs Cannon County at 5:00 p.m.
April 16th vs Monroe County, KY at 5:30 p.m.
April 20th vs York Institute at 5:00 p.m.
April 22nd vs Jackson County at 6:00 p.m.
April 26th vs Trousdale County at 5:00 p.m.
May 4th vs Bledsoe County at 5:00 p.m.

Lady Tigers Upset Grundy County 56 to 40 in Region Tournament

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers upset Grundy County in the Region 4AA basketball tournament Friday night 56 to 40

With the win the Lady Tigers will meet Cannon County in the next round of the tournament on Monday night. The Lionettes eliminated Blesoe County in their region tournament game at Woodbury.

DeKalb County, the fourth seed from district 8, led 16 to 6 after the first period. Grundy County, the top seed from district 7, cut into the Lady Tiger lead in the second period, outscoring DeKalb 16 to 10, but still the black and gold held a four point edge, 26 to 22 at halftime. DeKalb County maintained that four point advantage at the end of the third quarter 38 to 34 as each team scored 12 points in the period. DeKalb County put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Grundy County 18 to 6 enroute to the 56 to 40 victory.

Lady Tigers Drop into Tourney Consolation Game

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers will play for third place in the consolation game of the district tournament Saturday after losing to Cannon County 68 to 46 in the semi-finals on Friday night.

DeKalb County will meet Livingston Academy Saturday at 6:00 p.m. after the Lady Wildcats fell to Upperman 42 to 39 in the other semi-finals game Friday. WJLE will broadcast the game LIVE.

Cannon County jumped out to a 19 to 9 lead after the first period and outscored the Lady Tigers 15 to 14 in the second period to take a 34 to 23 halftime advantage. The Lady Tigers found themselves down by 20 points after the third quarter 51 to 31 as they were outscored 17 to 8 in the period. In the fourth, Cannon County cruised to a 68 to 46 victory, outscoring the Lady Tigers 17 to 15 in the quarter.

Cynthia Woodward scored 13 for the Lady Tigers. Kristina Stephens had 9, Martha Webb 8, Elicia Cantrell 6, Mercedes Luna 5, Alex Meadows 3, and Morgan Page with 2 points.

Lady Tigers Advance to Semi-Finals-Tigers Eliminated from District Tourney

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers upended York Institute 73 to 68 but the Tigers were eliminated by the Cannon County Lions 73 to 63 in the district tournament at Tennessee Tech Thursday night.

With the win, the fifth seeded Lady Tigers advance to the semi-finals to play the top seeded Cannon County Lionettes Friday night at 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage. Meanwhile, the second seeded Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats will face the third seeded Upperman Lady Bees in the other game of the semi-finals Friday at 4:00 p.m. The winners of those two games will move on to the championship game Monday night at 6:00 p.m. The losers will play for third place in the consolation game Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

DeKalb Teams to Play Thursday Night in District Tournament

The DeKalb County High School Basketball teams will make their debut in the District 8-AA Tournament Thursday night at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The fifth seeded Lady Tigers will take on the fourth seeded York Institute Lady Dragons at 6:00 p.m. followed at 7:30 p.m. by a match-up between the fourth seeded Tigers and the fifth seeded Cannon County Lions.

WJLE will have LIVE coverage of both games at Hooper Eblen Center at Cookeville.

Meanwhile, DeKalb County's Seth Willoughby was named the "Most Improved Player" among boys players in the district and he earned a spot on the First Team All District. Payne Denman was named to the Second Team All District; Sonni Young made the Third Team All District, the All Freshman Team, and the All Defensive Team. Destry Wiggins and Hunter Poteete received Honorable Mention.

DeKalb Teams Conclude Regular Season with Road Losses at Livingston Academy

The DeKalb County High School basketball teams didn't close the book on the regular season as they had hoped Saturday night as both teams lost on the road at Livingston Academy.

The Lady Tigers fell 63 to 32 while the Tigers lost 76 to 56.

The Lady Wildcats led 13 to 9 after the first period, 34 to 11 at halftime, and 49 to 20 after the third period, before winning 63 to 32. The Lady Tigers were outscored 21 to 2 in the second period, 15 to 9 in the third quarter, and 14 to 12 in the fourth period

Cynthia Woodward scored 10 points, Alex Meadows 7, Nikki Bass 5, Mercedes Luna 4, Kristina Stephens 3, Morgan Page 2, and Martha Webb with 1 point.

In the boys game, the Wildcats led 20 to 10 after the first period, 39 to 24 at halftime, and 59 to 38 after the third quarter, before winning 76 to 56. Livingston Academy outscored the Tigers 19 to 14 in the second period, and 20 to 14 in the third quarter. DeKalb County edged the Wildcats 18 to 17 in the fourth period.

Tigers and Lady Tigers Win at Smith County

The DeKalb County High School basketball teams swept a pair of district road games at Smith County Friday night.

The Lady Tigers won in a low scoring contest 38 to 28 while the Tigers prevailed 42 to 34.

In the girls game, the Lady Tigers held a 13 to 9 lead after the first period and extended the advantage to 10 points at half time, 26 to 16. The Owlettes cut the margin of the DC lead to eight points by the end of the third, 31 to 23, but the Lady Tigers went on to win by ten 38 to 28.

Cynthia Woodward scored 13 points, Martha Webb 11, Alex Meadows 5, Kristina Stephens 4, Morgan Page 2, and Mercedes Luna with 2 points. Brooke Hutchings added a free throw.

Dragons Spoil Senior Night for Tigers

The York Institute Lady Dragons handed DeKalb County a 64 to 52 district loss Tuesday evening, while the Tigers were defeated 79 to 62, spoiling senior night for the home teams.

In the girls game, DeKalb County found it difficult to slow Ashley Wright who scored 31 points for the Lady Dragons.

The visitors led 15 to 13 after the first period and 26 to 22 at half time, outscoring the home team 11 to 9 in the second period. The Lady Dragons outpaced DeKalb County 23 to 11 in the third quarter for a 49 to 33 advantage heading into the fourth period. The Lady Tigers outscored York Institute 19 to 15 in the final frame but lost the game 64 to 52.

Cynthia Woodward led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Martha Webb 12, Kristina Stephens 8, Alex Meadows 7, Mercedes Luna 4, Nikki Bass 3, Chelsea Lewis 2, and Elicia Cantrell with 1 point.

With the loss, the Lady Tigers drop to 14 and 11 overall and 1-7 in the district.
