The Lady Tigers dropped their district opener at York Institute Friday night 64 to 53 but the Tigers notched a 53 to 42 win over the Dragons.
DC trailed 22 to 8 after the first quarter in the girls game but outscored the Lady Dragons in the second period 16 to 14 to cut the deficit to 36 to 24 by halftime. York Institute's lead got even smaller, 47 to 39, by the close of the third quarter as DC outscored the Lady Dragons 15 to 11 in the period. DC continued to battle in the fourth quarter but could not catch up. The Lady Tigers were outscored 17 to 14 and lost 64 to 53.
Chelsea Lewis scored 15 points and Alex Meadows had 13 to lead DeKalb County in scoring. Abbey Caldwell had 8, Loren Cripps 7, Ashley Barnes 6, and Danielle Tyson and Raye Baker each had 2 points.
The Tigers trailed the Dragons 14 to 7 after the first period but grabbed a 21 to 19 lead by halftime, outgunning their district foes 14 to 5 in the second period. The Tigers outscored the Dragons 19 to 8 in the third period and led 40 to 27 after three. York Institute edged DC 15 to 13 in the fourth but the Tigers won 53 to 42.
Sonni Young had the hot hand for the Tigers with 19 points followed by Ethan Roller with 11, Braxton Atnip 9, Stephen Howell 8, Will Molander 3, Andrew Atnip 2, and Lucas Phillips with 1 points.
DeKalb County will host Livingston Academy Tuesday night, December 6 in Smithville starting with the girls game at 6:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
