The Upperman Bees are on their way to a district championship after delivering a stinging 61 to 14 blowout of the DeKalb County Tigers at Baxter Friday night..
The state's third ranked Bees in Class 3A ran their record to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in district play with only Cannon County remaining on their schedule before the state playoffs.
DeKalb County drops to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the district with a visit to Smith County next Friday night in the regular season finale at Carthage.
Conner York was responsible for six of Upperman's touchdowns either running or throwing.
The Tigers got in a hole early with two turnovers that the Bees quickly turned into points. The first came on a DeKalb County blocked punt. Robert Stephenson scooped up the football and returned it fifteen yards for a touchdown. The try for extra points failed but the Bees led 6-0.
After a Tiger fumble, Upperman mounted a drive and scored on a five yard touchdown run by Conner York with 9:44 left in the first period. The Bees then converted on a pass for two points and the score was 14-0.
Later in the first period, Conner York tossed a seven yard touchdown pass to Patrick Ely. The conversion attempt failed but Upperman led 20-0
Conner York put the Bees on the board again with 3:29 left in the first period on a two yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good and Upperman led 28-0
York extended the Upperman advantage with 9:36 left in the second period on a three yard touchdown run. The P.A.T. was good and the Bees held a commanding 35-0 lead.
With 34 seconds left in the second period, York struck again on another three yard touchdown run. The P.A.T. failed but the Bees ended the first half leading 41-0.
DeKalb County finally got on the board in the third period on a 24 yard touchdown run by Devonta Milan. The P.A.T. by Matthew Poss was good and the Tigers trailed 41-7.
Upperman answered on a 26 yard touchdown run with 5:14 left in the third period. The conversion attempt failed but the Bees led 47-7.
York added another Upperman touchdown on a 15 yard run. The P.A.T. was good and the Bees were up 54-7.
DeKalb County's Jonathan Munoz scored on a 21 yard touchdown pass play from quarterback Steven Jennings. The P.A.T. by Poss was good and the Tigers trailed 54-14.
The last score of the night came on an 80 yard kick-off return for a touchdown by Upperman's Robert Stephenson with 8:07 left in the fourth period. The P.A.T. was good and the Bees celebrated a 61-14 victory over the DeKalb County Tigers.
