Tigers Roar at Cannon County

The DeKalb County Tigers improved their over-all record to 2-1 and got their first district win of the season Friday night with a 34 to 7 victory over the Cannon County Lions in Woodbury.

The Tigers got on the board with 6:35 left in the first period on a 13 yard touchdown pass play from quarterback Shane Salley to Kevin Kijanski, capping a 95 yard drive. The P.A.T. attempt by Zach Taylor was no good but DeKalb County had a 6-0 lead.

Cannon County had barely gotten the ball back when the Tigers made them pay for a costly mistake. From their own 20 yard line, the ball sailed over the quarterback's head on a bad snap and DeKalb County's Kevin Kijanski got the ball and took it back the other way eight yards for a touchdown. The P.A.T. by Zach Taylor was good and the Tigers led 13-0 with 5:50 left in the first period.

DeKalb County tried to extend their lead late in the first quarter on a 47 yard field goal try by Zach Taylor, but the kick fell just short.

Moving to the second quarter, the Tigers took a three score advantage as quarterback Shane Salley found Matt Giles on an eighteen yard pass play for a touchdown. The P.A.T. attempt by Zach Taylor was no good but the Tigers led 19-0 with 9:05 left in the second period.

DeKalb County got another touchdown with 11:23 left in the third quarter as quarterback Shane Salley hooked up with Kevin Kijanski on a 22 yard pass play. Zach Taylor was lined up to kick for the extra point, but a bad exchange forced him to race for the endzone and he made it for the two point conversion, making the score 27-0.

Cannon County's only score of the night came on a 23 yard reverse by Justin Tobin. The P.A.T. by Colin Jones was good and the Lions trailed 27-7 with 8:33 left in the third quarter.

Finally, facing a fourth down and 29 yards to go with 3:22 left in the third quarter, quarterback Shane Salley hurled a pass to Matt Giles covering 33 yards for a touchdown and with Zach Taylor's successful P.A.T. the Tigers went on to win 34 to 7.

Next week, DeKalb County will travel to Sparta to take on the White County Warriors. The kick-off is set for seven p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
