Tigers repeat as District golf champs

The DeKalb County High School Tiger golf team won the District 7A-AA golf tournament for the second straight year, easily out-distancing runner-up, Jackson County. The Tigers posted an 18-hole score of 302, 25 strokes better than the second place Blue Devils, who finished with a 327.

Meanwhile, Tiger sophomore Payne Denman shot a 66 to claim top individual medalist honors by eight strokes over Livingston Academy's Clint West. Grant Goodwin of DeKalb County finished third among individual medalists with a score of 77, while Austin Garrett tied with two other players for fourth place, with a 78. Grant James rounded out the Tigers' team score, with an 81.

Monterey placed third among teams, with a 328.

Along with the girls' team, the Tigers will also take part in the Region 4A-AA Tournament, next Monday, October 1st, at Cookeville Country Club. Tee time is set for 9:00 a.m.
