After trailing York Institute for most of the game Friday night, the DeKalb County Tigers rallied late and scored the winning touchdown with nine seconds on the clock to defeat the Dragons in Smithville 28-21.
DeKalb County improves to 2-1 (1-0 in region) while the Dragons drop to 0-3 (0-1) on the season.
York Institute took the lead with 45 seconds to go in the 1st period on a 32 yard touchdown run by Cole Cooper. Ethan Probst added the extra point and the Dragons held a 7-0 advantage.
With 49 seconds left before halftime, Quarterback Mason Cravens scored on a 2 yard run for the Dragons. Probst tacked on the extra point and York Institute led 14-0 .
The Tigers cut the lead in half with 5:11 to go in the 3rd period on a 2 yard quarterback keeper by Steven Jennings. Matt Poss kicked the extra point and DeKalb County trailed 14-7.
York Institute extended its lead with 11:17 left in the 4th period on a Mason Cravens touchdown pass to Trevor Threet. Probst booted the extra point and the Dragons led 21-7.
The Tigers drew closer on a Steven Jennings 5 yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bundy with 8:08 left in the game. Matt Poss added the extra point to cut the Dragons lead to 21-14.
DeKalb County tied the game with 4:26 to go on a 10 yard touchdown run by Quarterback Steven Jennings. The extra point by Matt Poss made the score 21-21.
York Institute turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert on a 4th and 1 at their own 21 yard line with two minutes left.
