Tigers Notch District Win over Owls, Lady Tigers Suffer Loss

Stephen Howell racked up 26 points and helped lead the Tigers to a 68 to 60 victory over their district rivals the Smith County Owls Friday night in Smithville.

Howell was one of two players in double figures for DC. The other was Sonni Young who had 18. Rounding out the scoring was Ethan Roller with 3, Eli Lomas 7, Andrew Atnip 6, Braxton Atnip 4 and Will Molander 4. and Lucas Phillips 3

DC led 24 to 16 after the first period and 47 to 37 at halftime, outscoring the Owls 23 to 21 in the second period. The Tigers outscored Smith County 10 to 5 in the third and led 57 to 42 after three. Smith County outpaced the Tigers in the fourth quarter 18 to 11 but DC won by eight, 68 to 60.

The Lady Tigers lost to Smith County in the first game of the night, 53 to 38.

DC fell behind 15 to 10 after the first period and trailed 32 to 23 at halftime, being outscored 17 to 13 in the second period. The Lady Tigers outscored Smith County 6 to 4 in the third quarter but trailed 36 to 29 after three. Smith County pulled away in the fourth period, outscoring DC 17 to 9 to win 53 to 38.

Chelsea Lewis had 11 for the Lady Tigers. Ashley Barnes 6, Abbey Caldwell and Danielle Tyson each with 5. Alex Meadows and Raye Baker each with 4 and Loren Cripps with 3.

DeKalb County travels to Cannon County Tuesday night, December 13. WJLE will have LIVE coverage starting with the girls game at 6:00 p.m.
