The DeKalb County Tigers swatted the Upperman Bees 14-7 on Senior Night Friday in Smithville.
The win improves the Tiger record to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in region play with a trip to Cannon County next Friday in the regular season finale. DeKalb County will finish region play in 2nd place securing the Tigers a home game in the first round of the state play-offs in two weeks.
The Tigers and Bees battled to a scoreless tie in the first period and the only score of the second period came with 11 seconds left before halftime on a 1 yard quarterback keeper by Tyler Cantrell, capping a 73 yard drive. Matthew Poss booted the extra point and DeKalb County led 7-0.
Upperman tied the game with 6:06 left in the 3rd period on a 45 yard touchdown run by Cole Pierce, capping a 69 yard drive. Allen Fields added the extra point and the score was 7-7.
DeKalb County got the game winning score with less than four minutes to go in the 4th period on a 95 yard touchdown pass play from Tyler Cantrell to Matthew Poss. The extra point by Poss was good and the Tigers went on to win 14-7.
