The DeKalb County Tigers grounded the Jets of Cumberland County Friday night in Crossville winning 43-28.
The Tigers are now 3-1 on the season while the Jets fall to 0-3.
DeKalb County got the first score of the game with 9:23 left in the 1st period on a 1 yard Tyler Bundy run. The PAT try by Matthew Poss was no good but the Tigers led 6-0.
The Jets answered with 5:25 left in the 1st period on a 17 yard touchdown run by Michael Miller. Mason Hall added the extra point and Cumberland County took a 7-6 lead.
The Tigers regained the lead with 4:10 left in the 1st period on a 37 yard touchdown run by Quarterback Steven Jennings. The try for a two point conversion failed but DeKalb County was back on top 12-7.
With 23 seconds left in the 1st period, Quarterback Jennings found Bradley Miller on a 13 yard touchdown pass. Matthew Poss tacked on the extra point and the Tigers extended their lead over the Jets 19-7.
DeKalb County added two more touchdowns and a field goal in the second period. Drew Castorena scored on an 11 yard screen pass from Jennings with 9:12 left before halftime and with Poss’ PAT the Tigers were up 26-7.
The Tigers cashed in on a Jets turnover later as Tyler Bundy recovered a fumble. Jennings then hooked up with Omar Aldino on a 12 yard touchdown pass and with Poss’ PAT DeKalb County held a 33-7 advantage.
The Tigers scored off another Jets turnover before halftime. Nick May recovered a fumble which resulted in a Matthew Poss field goal for 23 yards with 1:43 left in the 2nd period to put the Tigers on top 36-7 by intermission.
The Jets would score three more times in the second half. After a Tiger turnover, the Jets got a touchdown on a 41 yard run by Dylan Wyatt with 3:07 left in the 3rd period. Mason Hall added the extra point and Cumberland County trailed 36-14.
Matthew Poss scored for the Tigers on the ensuing kick-off racing 95 yards for a touchdown. Poss booted the PAT and DeKalb County held a 43-14 lead with 2:53 left in the 3rd period.
Dylan Wyatt scored his second touchdown of the game for the Jets on a 56 yard run with 1:52 left in the 3rd period. Mason Hall added the PAT and the Jets trailed 43-21.
The last score of the night came on a 4 yard touchdown run by Jake Kerley with 8:45 left in the 4th period. Mason Hall booted the PAT but the Jets fell short losing 43-28.
