The DeKalb County Tigers came up short in the season opener Friday night losing at home to the Warren County Pioneers 19 to 16.
The black and gold got behind only twenty eight seconds into the game as a snap from center sailed over quarterback Shane Salley's head. The ball was covered in the endzone for a safety to give Warren County a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard again with 10:03 left in the first period as Caleb Northcutt took it in from one yard out, capping a five play, 59 yard drive. The P.A.T. by Adam Fann was good and Warren County led 9-0.
The Tigers got their first points of the night on the strength of a 34 yard field goal by Zach Taylor with 5:20 left in the second period. DeKalb County trailed 9-3.
DeKalb County tied the game at 9-9 with 3:17 left in the second quarter on a 65 yard punt return by Kevin Kijanski. Taylor's P.A.T. attempt was blocked.
On the last play of the first half, Adam Fann converted on a 23 yard field goal to give the Pioneers a 12-9 lead going into intermission.
Neither team scored in the third quarter although DeKalb County's Zach Taylor attempted a 43 yard field goal with 8:33 left which sailed wide left.
In the fourth quarter, Warren County took a 10 point lead after Franklin Martin scored on a five yard run with 7:37 left in the game. The P.A.T. by Fann was good and the Pioneers led 19-9.
DeKalb County put one more score on the board with three minutes left as quarterback Shane Salley hooked up with Sonni Young on a pass play that covered 46 yards for a touchdown. The P.A.T. by Taylor was good and the Tigers trailed 19-16.
The Tigers got the ball back with less than two minutes to play but Salley threw an interception and Warren County ran out the clock.
Next Friday night, August 27th, the Tigers will travel to Oneida. WJLE will have LIVE coverage of the game starting at 7:00 p.m. (central time).
