It was the first Tiger football win over a Warren County team in McMinnville in DCHS school history and only the third victory all time by the Tigers against the Pioneers.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first period but the Tigers got on the scoreboard first with 3:21 left in the second quarter on a two yard touchdown run by Zach Taylor. The P.A.T. by Taylor was also good and the Tigers led 7-0
The Tigers scored another touchdown with only seven seconds left before halftime on a 21 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips to Will Molander. The PA.T attempt was no good but DeKalb County had built a 13-0 lead by halftime.
A high snap on a punt, gave Warren County the ball on the DeKalb County 17 yard line in the third quarter and three plays later, the Pioneers cashed in on a seven yard touchdown run by Cameron Lusk with 8:43 left. The P.A.T. was good and the Tiger lead was cut to 13-7.
The Tigers extended their advantage with 7:55 left in the third as Zach Taylor caught a three yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips. The two point conversion try failed but the Tigers led 19-7.
DeKalb County added one more score with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter on a seven yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas Phillips to Zach Taylor. The P.A.T. by Taylor was also good and the Tigers went on to win 26-7.
The Tigers, now 1-0, will play their home opener next Friday night, August 26 against the Clay County Bulldogs. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
