The DeKalb County High School Tiger baseball team was shut out at Goodpasture, 9-0, Monday afternoon in the semi-finals of the Region 4-AA Tournament. The loss ends the season for the Tigers, who finish with a 24-8 record.
The Cougars, the defending Class AA State Champions, scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and added another run in the bottom of the second. Goodpasture closed out the rout with two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.
Trey Finley started the game and worked through the first four innings. Finley allowed seven runs, two earned, on six hits, struck out seven, walked three and hit a batter. A throwing error committed by the senior pitcher led to four unearned runs. The Tigers committed two errors in the game, after committing just one error in the past six games combined.
Bray Page took over on the mound in the fifth and closed out the game. Page allowed two earned runs on two hits, struck out four and walked one.
The Tigers had only five hits in the game, led by Page, with a single and a double. Corey Atnip, Colt Stewart and Destry Wiggins added one single apiece.
Goodpasture, who was #1 in the mid-state, this week, among all classifications, improves to 33-4 on the season.
In Monday's other Region semi-final, Upperman topped Station Camp, 4-3. The Bees will host Goodpasture in the Region final on Wednesday. Upperman was the District 7-AA Tournament champion.
