The DeKalb County High School Basketball teams swept their season openers Tuesday night, as they beat Trousdale County in a pair of Hall of Fame games in Smithville.
The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Yellow Jackets 59 to 23 and the Tigers followed that up with a 66 to 60 win in the boys game.
The Lady Tigers jumped on top, 7-0, in the opening minutes, and never trailed the Lady Jackets. DeKalb County owned an 18 to 7 lead at the end of the first period and held a 33 to 10 advantage at half time. DeKalb County expanded the lead to 54 to 17 at the end of the third period and went on to win 59 to 23.
Cynthia Woodward led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 16 points followed by Nikki Bass and Kristina Stephens each with 9 points, Morgan Page 7, Martha Webb 6, Victoria Bennett and Brooke Hutchings 3 points each, and Elicia Cantrell, Jaylen Garrett, and Jessica Garrison each with 2 points.
In the nightcap, the Tigers trailed 18 to 17 at the end of the first quarter but pulled ahead 35 to 34 at half time. The game was tied at 48 at the end of the third quarter and the Tigers went on to win 66 to 60.
Payne Denman led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points followed by Seth Willoughby with 13, Cody Myrick 8, J.J. Herriott, Hunter Stewart, Cody Atnip, and Travon Johnson each with 4, Ethan Hale 3, and Destry Wiggins and Hunter Poteete each with 2 points.
