In a rematch of the Region 4-AA semi-finals from a year ago, the DeKalb County Tigerette fast-pitch softball team returned the favor to the District 7-AA runner-up. The Greenbrier Lady Bobcats pitched an 8-0 shutout of the Tigerettes a year ago, but DC got the best of the re-match, winning 5-2, Monday in Smithville, to advance to the Region 4-AA Tournament final for the first time since the 2001 season.
The game was scoreless through three innings, but Greenbrier struck first with a run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jordan Rehl. The Tigerettes fired back with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. Kristina Stephens and Morgan Page led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Sarah West followed with an RBI double. Shay Sullivan scored Page on a fielder's choice, and Brittney Armour drove two more runs in with a triple.
Greenbrier posted another run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Autumn White, but DeKalb County answered in the bottom of the inning on Page's RBI single, which made the score 5-2. Page allowed only one more hit the rest of the way, and struck out White, looking, to end the contest in the top of the seventh.
Page allowed two earned runs on six hits through seven complete innings in the pitcher's circle. She struck out five, walked one and hit a batter. Taylor Martin, who shutout the Tigerettes on three hits a year ago, took the loss as she allowed five earned runs on ten hits, struck out four and walked none.
West had two doubles and an RBI for the Tigerettes, while Page had two singles and an RBI. Jaylen Garrett was 2-for-3 with a single and a triple. Sullivan had a single and an RBI, while Armour had a triple and two RBI. Kayla Fish added a double, while Stephens tallied a single.
The Tigerettes improve to 26-8 overall, and will host Goodpasture in the Region 4-AA Tournament championship. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but with rain in the forecast, the game has been moved up to Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
