The DeKalb County Tigerettes, the top seed in the District Softball Tournament, lost to the Smith County Lady Owls Friday night at Baxter 6 to 5.
The Tigerettes drop into the loser's bracket and will play again Monday at 5:30 p.m. against Cannon County.
Smith County won the right to take on the Tigerettes by beating York Institute earlier in the day on Friday. Livingston Academy was also a winner, beating Cannon County.
DeKalb County and Smith County each scored one run in the second inning. The Lady Owls scored three more runs to take a 4 to 1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Tigerettes answered with a three run fifth inning to tie the game at 4 to 4 and then scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5 to 4 lead into the seventh inning. But Smith County rallied in the top of the seventh inning scoring two runs to come from behind and win 6 to 5.
Olivia Norton, the losing pitcher, went five innings and gave up four runs on four hits. She struck out three and walked one. Morgan Page went two innings and gave up two runs on one hit and walked two.
