The DeKalb County Tigerettes completed a back-to-back sweep of the Cannon County Lionettes, with a 4-2 win, Thursday in Woodbury. The Tigerettes had beaten the Lionettes, 7-1, Wednesday, in Smithville.
DeKalb County scored two runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth. Victoria Bennett and Alex Meadows each had RBI singles to plate runners in the third, while Morgan Page had an RBI single in the fifth, then stole home for the Tigerettes' final run. Cannon County scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, then added another run in the sixth.
Page scattered two Lionette runs on five hits in earning the pitching win for DeKalb County. The junior struck out nine and walked three.
The Tigerettes improve to 14-4 overall on the season, and to 8-1 in the district. The team will participate in The Duff tournament in Cookeville, Friday and Saturday. DeKalb County will play Clay County, Friday, at 5:00 p.m., then will match up with David Lipscomb, at 6:30 p.m. The Tigerettes will conclude pool play, Saturday morning, at 11:00 a.m., as they take on Murfreesboro Oakland. Single-elimination tournament play will begin for the Tigerettes, Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.
