After returning to the TSSAA State Baseball Tournament in back-to-back seasons, some awards were coming for some DeKalb County High Tiger Baseball team members and its coach. Being named All-Region for back-to-back seasons were pitcher Cody Puckett, pitcher/outfielder Shane Salley, shortstop Destry Wiggins and Coach of the Year Scott Odom.
Puckett, only a sophomore, finished the season with a record of 9 wins and 1 loss on the mound. He pitched 63 innings with 92 strikeouts and allowing only 19 walks. His ERA was 1.44 and was the winning pitcher in the Region Semi-Final game and the Sectional (sub-state) game.
Salley finished the season with a pitching record of 10 wins and 0 losses and 1 save. He pitched 53 innings, striking out 58 and allowing only 8 walks. His ERA was 1.32 and was the winning pitcher in the Region Final and first game of the state tournament. Salley also had a batting average of .516 with 29 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He was also named to the 2nd team all Mid-State team.
Wiggins finished the season with a .379 batting average with 3 home runs and 3 triples along with 11 doubles. As the Tiger leadoff hitter he scored 49 runs and drove in 26 as well as stealing a school record 34 bases. All to go along with being a top defensive shortstop.
Coach Odom led the DCHS Tiger team back to the TSSAA state tournament for the second straight year and a 28 wins and 4 loss season. The DCHS team finished ranked #4 by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. Odom also repeats as the Middle/East Tennessee Coach of the Year from the TBCA (which covers from Nashville to Knoxville and from Chattanooga to Clarksville area.
