The DeKalb Saints got back in the win column Thursday night with a 22-6 victory over the Cannon County Middle School Lions at Woodbury.
The first quarter proved to be a defensive battle as neither team could get on the scoreboard.
But the Saints would strike first in the second quarter with 3:01 left as running back A.J. Mooneyham scored on a 20 yard touchdown run. The 2 point try was good and the Saint led 8-0 at halftime.
On the first play of the third period, A.J. Mooneyham scored his second touchdown of the night on a 75 yard run. The 2 point try was good and the Saints led 16-0 with 6:55 to go in the third period.
The Saints got on the board again with 3:06 left in the third quarter as Quarterback Joey Moon hooked up with Trenton Nicoson on a 41 yard touchdown pass play. The 2 point try was no good but the Saints led 22-0
The Lions' only score came with 1:21 left in the third quarter on a 10 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point try was no good and the Saints lead was cut to 22-6 but that proved to be plenty enough as neither team scored in the fourth period..
The Saints' record goes to 2-3 and they will play Westmoreland Thursday night September 22nd. Kick off is set for 6:30pm.
