The Westmoreland Eagles landed in Smithville and then soared to a 32 to 8 victory over the DeKalb Saints Thursday night in the regular season finale.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first period but the Eagles broke through with 7:56 left to go before halftime on a 1 yard touch down run. The two point conversion was good and Westmoreland led 8-0.
The Saints' only score of the game came with 5:33 left in the 1st half as A.J. Mooneyham found Trenton Nicoson on a 49 yard touchdown pass play. The two point conversion was good and the Saints tied the game 8-8.
The rest of the game belonged to the Eagles as they blocked a punt and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown with 55.2 seconds left in the 1st half. The two point conversion was good and Westmoreland led 16-8 by halftime.
With 6:34 left in the 3rd quarter, the Eagles scored again, this time on a 3 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good and Westmoreland led 24-8.
Then with just 10.2 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, the Eagles scored their last touchdown of the game on a 27 yard run. The two point conversion was good and Westmoreland went on to win the game 32-8 . Neither team scored in the 4th quarter
The Saints finish the season with a record of 2-5 and would like to thank everyone who supported them this season.
