Bray Page capped off a seven-run third inning with a grand slam, as the DeKalb County Tiger baseball team routed Clay County for the second time this week. The Tigers' 14-1 victory in Celina gave the local high school team three victories in as many tries in this opening week of the baseball season.
Page's third inning shot helped open up a 10-0 Tiger advantage midway through the third inning, after the team had plated one run in the first inning and two more in the second. A four-run DC outburst in the top of the fifth closed out the game by virtue of the ten-run rule. Clay County scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth.
John Malone started on the mound for the Tigers, and pitched three innings of no-hit ball. Malone struck out five batters and walked one. Garrett Hoke came in for the final two innings, and surrendered one earned run on two hits, struck out three and walked one.
The Tigers pounded out 11 hits in the contest, led by Destry Wiggins with two doubles and two RBI. Cody Atnip and Zack Rowland each had two singles and two RBI. Malone backed his pitching with a single, a double and and RBI. Page's grand slam was his first home run of the season, and he was credited with four RBI. Chris Sliger had a single and an RBI, Joseph Bowen ripped a double, while Cory Atnip ad Jesse Sutton each tallied an RBI.
The 3-0 Tigers are sceduled to open district play at Cannon County, Monday at 5:00 p.m.
