Little League All-Star teams announced

DeKalb County's 2008 Little League All-Star teams and season award winners were announced during a special ceremony, Tuesday night, at the Little League Field.

Kalab Ferrell received the Carter Braswell Most Valuable Player award for the Little League division, while Matthew Judkins and Matthew Giles each won the award in Minor League and Senior League, respectively. Braxton Howell won the Josh Reece Memorial Gold Glove award in Little League, while Jacob Self won it in the Minor League division. Daniel Stanley won the Josh Reece award in Senior League.

Jalon Foster received the Mike Williams Memorial Batting Champion award in Little League, as he hit .647 for the season. Matthew Poss won the Mike Williams award for the best average in Minor League, with a .500 average, while McCullough Wallace, who hit .542 for the season, was the Senior League recipient. The Eric Midgett Memorial Sportsmanship Awards went to Besheare's Landscaping in Little League, Johnson's Chiropractic got the award in Minor League, and Liberty State Bank in Senior League.

Johnson's Chiropractic won the Minor League championship for 2008, while Webb's Pharmacy and Liberty State Bank won the league championships in Little League and Senior League, respectively. Webb's Pharmacy was a perfect 16-0 in Little League, this season.

Named to the 9-10 year-old Minor League All-Star team were: A.J. Mooneyham, Jacob Washer, Sam McMillen, Cason Oakley, John Roller, Seth Wright, Charlie Young, Austin Brown, Lane Davenport, Jalen Dilligard, Dylan Stover and Caleb Stanley. Jeff Young will serve as the team's manager, and Paul Rowland will be the assistant coach. The 9-10 year-old All-Stars will open play against Smith County on Saturday, June 28th, at 6:00 p.m. in Sparta.

Members of the 10-11 year-old All-Star team include: Lance Ball, Lane Ball, Zack Roberts, Hunter Parkhurst, Trey Guinn, Ty Curtis, Payton Young, Logan Poss, Justin Bone, Corey Ferrell, Andrew Stover and Nick Parsley. Sherman Murphy will be the team's manager. The 10-11 year-old All-Stars will begin tournament play in Smith County against Hartsville on Monday, July 7th, at 7:30 p.m.

DeKalb County will have two 10-under machine-pitch tournament teams. One team will consist of Elijah Hendrixson, Noah Parsley, Daniel Rogers, Andrew Cornelious, Preston Cripps, Adam Ferrell, Jordan Whitehead, Austin Simpson, Matthew Wright, Nicholas Agee, Lane Poss and Devin Zaderiko. This team will be coached by Joey Parsley, and will open tournament play in Lebanon on Monday, July 7th, at 6:00 p.m., against Smith County.

The other local machine-pitch tournament team is made up of Gentry Harpole, Devin Bain, Matthew Judkins, Matthew Poss, Jacob Self, Laradon Wiggins, Chandler Vincent, Brady Hughes, Casey Taylor, Lee Randolph and Lance Mabe. Ryan Hughes and Phillip Self will be the coaches for this team, which will start tournament play on Monday, July 7th, in Smith County. The team will play Lebanon at 6:00 p.m.

The 11-12 year-old Little League All-Star team will open play on Saturday, June 28th, in Sparta. They will play Smith County, that evening, at 7:30 p.m. The 11-12 year-old All-Stars include: Devin Summers, Cody Harrell, Chase Hoke, Steven Page, Seth Gerringer, Kalab Ferrell, Jalon Foster, Seth Stanley, Zack Sparks, Dylan Young, Braxton Howell and Aaron Patterson. Steve Page will be the manager of the team, and David Summers and Mike Harrell will be the assistants.

The 13-14 year-old Junior League All-Star team consists of Evan Curtis, Stephen Howell, DeShon Reeder, Cody Puckett, Jordan Huling, Quentin Cook, Andrew Howell, Dillon Reeder, Jacob Cripps, Andrew Atnip, Daniel Stanley and Christopher Powell. Brandon Cox is the manager for the team, which will open tournament play on Monday, July 7th, at 7:00 p.m. against Hartsville. The Junior League tournament will be played at Smith County.

The 15-16 year-old Senior League tournament will be played in Smithville, and DeKalb County will open play on Monday, July 7th, at 6:00 p.m., against Westmoreland. T he local Senior League All-Star team is made up of Dalton Fish, Tyler Kent, Casey Rowland, Devin Thomas, McCullough Wallace, Randall Hansard, Wesley Blair, Ethan Matthews, Lance Bennett, Matthew Giles, Tyler Caldwell and Jesse Sutton. Donnie Rowland is the manager of the team.
