The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers won their first game of the Watertown Christmas Tournament Tuesday beating Cheatham County 45 to 34. The Tigers lost to Cheatham County 61 to 56, sending them to the consolation game today (Wednesday).
In the girls game, the Lady Tigers trailed 15 to 7 after the first period but outscored the Lady Cubs 14 to 9 in the second period to cut Cheatham County's lead to 24 to 21 by halftime. DC grabbed a 30 to 26 lead by the end of the third period, outscoring the Lady Cubs 9 to 2. DeKalb County went on to win 45 to 34 after outscoring Cheatham County 15 to 8 in the fourth period.
Alex Meadows led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Abbey Caldwell scored 9. Ashley Barnes 7. Chelsea Lewis and Danielle Tyson each scored 5 and Loren Cripps added 4 points.
In the boys game, Cheatham County led 18 to 11 after the first period but the Tigers climbed on top 34 to 32 by halftime, outscoring the Cubs 23 to 14 in the second period. The teams played to a 14 all tie in the third quarter and DC led 48 to 46 going into the fourth period. Cheatham County outscored the Tigers 15 to 8 in the fourth period and won 61 to 56.
Stephen Howell scored 23 to lead the Tigers in scoring. Sonni Young had 17. Braxton Atnip and Braxton Howell each scored 10, and Eli Lomas had 2.
The Lady Tigers will play at 7:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) against either Watertown or Monterey in the winners bracket while the Tigers will face either Monterey or Watertown at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation game. WJLE will have Live coverage of both games.
