The DeKalb County Tigers and Lady Tigers got the basketball season off to a great start Tuesday night with wins over their border rivals from Warren County in Smithville.
For the girls, DC won 49 to 31 while the Tigers upended the Pioneers 60 to 55.
In the first game, the Lady Tigers led 13 to 9 after the first period, 22 to 17 at halftime, and 39 to 25 after the third period before going on to win 49 to 31.
Chelsea Lewis and Lauren Cripps each led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 11 points. Paige Winningham 10, Abbey Caldwell 8, Ashley Barnes 6, and Lydia Foutch with 3 points.
The Tigers led 17 to 12 after the first period of their game and held a 35 to 31 halftime lead before falling behind 49 to 45 after the third period. DC came back in the fourth quarter and won 60 to 55.
Stephen Howell led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points. Zach Vincent and Braxton Atnip each scored 11. Lucas Phillips and Sonni Fullilove each had 6, Ethan Roller 5, and Aaron Patterson and Eli Lomas each scored 2 points.
DeKalb County will compete in the Cannon County Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
