50 year old William Edgar Davis of Smithville died on Wednesday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. He was born April 25, 1963 in Smithville. Edgar was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1981 and from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville in 1985 with a B.S. in Agriculture. He was a member of Delta Tau Alpha, Agricultural Honor Society and Sigma Ki, the Scientific Research Society. In 1991 he received his Master of Science in Biology from Tennessee Tech University. He was employed with Tennessee Tech University as an Instructor and Horticulturist for 18 years, and the United States Department of Agriculture for 6 years in Plant Research. As a result of his plant and soil research, Edgar was published numerous times. He was preceded in death by his Father, Virgil Carl Davis; Nephew, B.J. Davis; Grandparents, Virgil and Dollie Davis, Lester and Maude Ford. Survivors include his Mother, Willene Davis; Sister, Betty Davis; Brother, Carl Douglas and his wife, Sandra Davis; Nephews, Jacob Ray and his wife Dana Davis and Jared Tyler and his wife Kelli Davis; Great-Nieces, Kendall, Kloe and Kimber Davis all of Smithville. Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bill Robertson officiating and interment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Davis will be on Friday 2:PM until 8:PM and Saturday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM.
