90 year old Melvin Billings died Friday at NHC of Smithville. He was a member of the Mount Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a retired minister who pastored several different churches in DeKalb and surrounding counties. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Vaughn and Clara Felts Billings; his wife, Cecil Trapp Billings; a grandson, Lynn Tallent; a brother, Ernest Billings; and two sisters, Ellen Hutchins and Odene Prater. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce and husband Leonard Tallent of Smithville. Two grandsons, Marty Tallent of Smithville and Ronald and wife Andrea of McMinnville. Four great grandchildren, Brandon and Martelia Tallent of Smithville and Alex and Aaron Tallent of McMinnville. One sister, Alma Billings of Smithville. Two brothers, R.V. and wife Brenda Billings and Claude Billings all of Sparta. Sister-in-law, Frances Billings of McMinnville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
