81 year old Betty Jean Baker Herndon of Smithville died Tuesday at Centennial Medical Center. She was a member of F.C.E., Gleaners Sunday School Class and a Tuesday morning Bible Study Group. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 60 years and a retired school teacher. She taught 27 years at Smithville Elementary School. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smithville First Baptist Church. Mark Bass will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. until noon at the funeral home and the service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Russell Herndon; parents, Ira and Velma Hill Baker; grandson, Weston Cole; a sister, Barbara Baker Colvert; daughter-in-law, Margie Herndon; and sister-in-law, Judy Baker. Survivors include her children, Lynn Badgett and husband Richard West, Robert Russell Herndon, Jr and wife Tami, Martha Riggs and husband Greg, Mary Pugh and husband Joe, Mark Herndon and wife Sandi, and Carol Cole and husband Todd. She is also survived by her brother, Bill Baker and sister, Mary Louise Fitzgerald and husband Paul. Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Two sisters-in-law, Doris Terrell Crook and Betty Sue Herndon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. It was Mrs. Herndon's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp.
