56 year old Shirley J. Baker of Jasper, Alabama died Sunday at her residence. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Kilgore-Green Chapel in Jasper, Alabama. Edward Thompson will officiate and burial will be in the Boldo Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin Monday at 6:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Talmadge and Birdie Guthrie, two infant children; a daughter, Melissa Ann Baker; a son, Billy Ray Baker, Jr.; one infant brother; and a grandson-in-law, Roger Hubbard. Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Estes and her husband Stevie of Smithville. Granddaughters, Jesecca Hubbard, Christina Murphy, and Stephanie Murphy all of Smithville. A step-granddaughter, Amanda McClure of Smithville; two unborn great grandchildren; a brother, James Guthrie of Jasper; a sister, Brenda Blount and her husband Tom of Smithville, Mississippi, and several nieces, nephews, special friends and other family. The Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements.

84 year old B.W. Dirting of Smithville died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare Center of Smithville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a Mason, member of Liberty Lodge #77, and a factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member and deacon. Don McDonald will officiate and burial will be in the Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. when the body will be taken to the church where it will be from 1:30 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Maudine Atnip Dirting of Smithville. A daughter, Donna and her husband Danny Damron of Trenton, Michigan. Two grandchildren and one great grandchild. A sister, Ailene and her husband Don McDonald of Murfreesboro and a niece, Lorine Zaker of Murfreesboro. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. A Masonic Service will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

68 year old Gordon Jessie Dyer of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist. The funeral will be Saturday at noon at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dewey Dyer will officiate and burial will be in the Oddfellow Cemetery in Putnam County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Flossie Pippin Dyer; and two brothers, Hubert and Franklin Dyer. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Jean Pollard Dyer of Smithville. A daughter, Melissa and her husband Jimmy Glenn of Woodbury. Three sons, Larry and his wife Shirley Dyer, Gary and his wife Norma Jean Dyer, and Terry and his wife Tammy Dyer all of Smithville. Nine grandchildren, Priscilla, Rosalind, Jessica, Cassandra, Cortlind, and Miranda Dyer all of Smithville, Haley Glenn, Dakota, and A.J. Glenn all of Woodbury. Three brothers, William Dyer of Cookeville, Earl Dyer of Smithville, and Raymond Dyer of Nashville. Six sisters, Stella Clemons of Cookeville, Ella Chaffin of Baxter, Gladys Chaffin of Cookeville, Linda Brown, Reba Turner, and Altie Knowles all of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.

81 year old Mrs. Bobbie Jean Slaton of Smithville died Thursday at her residence. The funeral will be held at the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Sykes on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. J.T. Webster will officiate and burial will be in the Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home on Saturday from noon until 6:00 p.m. The body will be at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She is survived by two daughters, Lexine Hale of Smithville and Linda and her husband Rob Hudson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Two grandchildren, Dana Hale of Cookeville and Josh Dickerson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Three sisters, Helen Messick, Erza Jean Woosley, and Beatrice Sitter. The Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie A. Staggs Luna

95 year old Elsie A. Staggs Luna of Sparta died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will be in the Taylor Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene and Bill McCormick of Cookeville, Rena Dinky Adcock of Smithville, and Ovean and J.W. Phifer of Sparta. A son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Donna Luna of Lebanon. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and seven step grandchildren survive. Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

James Robert Caldwell

63 year old James Robert Caldwell of Smithville died Friday at his residence. He was a self employed truck driver and a member of the Praise Restoration Center. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. J.C. Allen will officiate and burial will be in the Whorton Springs Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Preshie Mai and Mary Jane Caldwell; a son, Robert Jason Caldwell; and a brother,Thomas Wayne Caldwell; Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda and her husband Billy Taylor of Smithville. Two sons, Ron Caldwell of Illinois and Randy Caldwell of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Alec, Grace, and Eve Caldwell of Illinois, Jacob Caldwell of Indiana, Tiffany Lattimore and Allison Taylor of Smithville. Special friend, Donna Blair. One sister, Marilyn and her husband Raymond Caldwell. One brother, John and his wife Peggy Caldwell and a sister-in-law, Ruby Caldwell all of Smithville. 73 year old Virginia Ruth Herron of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Allen's Chapel United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Combat Control Association. She was also a retired employee of Kingston Timer. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Ronald Whited, Tim Ferguson, and Phil Tollet will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Erskin Herron; her parents, Joe Redmon and Stella Moore Redmon Clark; a son, Russell Herron; and a sister, Ida Mae Benoit. Survivors include two sons, Greg and his wife Letitia Herron and Ed Herron all of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Gregory, Ryan, and Destiny Herron. Two brothers, David and J.R. Redmon of Smithville and a sister, Judy Minnear of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

60 year old Brenda Rosetta Walker of McMinnville died Wednesday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a retired shirt factory worker and a member of the Gath Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mann and Ruth Arnold Hendrix; her husband, Charles \"Butch\" Edward Walker; a brother, Jr. Hendrix; a daughter, Tammy Tate; and a granddaughter, Tansey Talbert. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Pansey Kilgore of McMinnville. A daughter, Lou Ann Self of Smithville. Nine grandchildren, Three great grandchildren, and eight brothers, Beecher Hendrix of Hendersonville, Aubrey, David, and Frankie Hendrix of McMinnville, Jimmy, Anthony, and Phillip Hendrix of Smithville and Norman Hendrix of Manchester. Three sisters, Linda Foster of Alabama, Carolyn Whitlock of McMinnville, and Lisa Byford of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

W.C. Keyt

77 year old W.C. Keyt of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee died Wednesday of an extended illness. He was born in Crossville but moved to Smithville at the age of six months. He attended school in Smithville and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in the School of Transportation. He made transportation his career for 53 years. He was also a Korean War Veteran. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Whorton Springs Baptist Church. Roland Smith of the Central Baptist Church in Crossville will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. He is survived by his wife, Antha Smith Keyt of Fairfield Glade and formerly of McMinnville. A daughter, Janice Marie Burris of Nashville. Two sons, Timothy Wade Keyt of Cookeville and Robert Keyt of Chattanooga. A sister, Louise Frazier of Dowelltown. Two brothers, Lloyd Keyt of Springfield and James Keyt of Columbus, Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
