New to Smithville

JR. Swim Team at Smithville Swimming Pool
Ages up to 15 years of age “must be able to swim alone.”

It’s a guided swimming exercise program.

Starts Monday June 3rd
Programs ends Tuesday July 9th

Practices will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays
6:30p.m - 8:00p.m.

The course will be led by Jeania Poss and Life Guards

"Dig Into Reading" at Justin Potter Library 2013 Summer Reading Program

Registration for Justin Potter Library's Summer Reading Club & Read-to-me Club begins on May 28 and will run through June 25. Children set their own reading goal and will receive a participation certificate.

Haven of Hope Grief Support Meeting

Haven of Hope at 612 South Congress will be starting a new grief support group Monday, May 13th at 6pm. This group will meet weekly through the month of June with the exception of Memorial Day. It is free and open to the public. For more information call 597-4673.

Benefit Giant Yard Sale and Bake Sale

A Giant Yard Sale and Bake Sale will be Saturday, May 25 from 7:00 a.m. until? at the Smithville First Free Will Baptist Church, 500 Bright Hill Street (behind Bumpers). If it rains, the sale will be in the church basement. All proceeds will go to the Bobbie Clayton family. Phillip Clayton (husband) is battling Stage 4 lung cancer. Chrissy Means (daughter) is battling ovarian cancer. For more information see Tracy Fann. Organized by co-workers and friends of the Clayton family.

35th Annual Older Americans Day at Justin Potter Library

The month of May is recognized nationally as Older Americans Month, a time when we acknowledge the vast contributions older adults make to their familes, communities and the nation. Justin Potter Library will join in the national celebration once again by hosting Older Americans Day at the library on Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. This year's theme is "Unleash the Power of Age"! The featured entertainer will be noted author and storyteller, Charles Maynard. There will be displays, door prizes, goody bags and sack lunches for the older adults to enjoy. Memorial Day Program

A Memorial Day Program, sponsored by the American Legion Post #122 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7623 will be Monday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the county complex auditorium at 712 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville. Entertainment begins at 9:30 a.m. by 4 The Lord. The speaker will be Dr. John Carpenter, Pastor of the Smithville First United and Bright Hill United Methodist Church.

Free Breakfast and Lunch at School

A free breakfast and lunch will be offered Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, June 14 at the cafeterias of DeKalb County High School, Smithville Elementary School, and Northside Elementary School. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for those 18 years of age or younger.

Benefit Ham Breakfast for Blue Springs Station of DeKalb Fire Dept

A Ham breakfast to raise money for the Blue Springs Station of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department will be Saturday, June 1 from 7-9 a.m. at the county complex. Tickets are available for $7.00 each. Call Jeremy Neal to get your ticket at 615-684-2900.
