Are you a 50 or older adult and want to increase your strength, flexibility and balance? The UT/TSU Extension office in DeKalb County will be holding free light weight strength training classes for 8 weeks on Mondays and Wednesday. Level I for beginners in light weights will be from 9 – 10 am. Intermediate and advanced level II will be April 1st from 11 – 12. Classes will be at the County Complex Building. The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses to observe the 2024 Memorial Celebration
The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses will observe the 2024 Memorial Celebration on March 24. The meeting, which will last about one hour, starts and ends with the singing of songs, as well as a prayer offered by a minister of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The main feature of the Memorial is a talk about the importance of Jesus’ death and how we can benefit from what God and Christ have done for us. While Easter is a celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, the Memorial celebration is a solemn commemoration of Jesus’ death. The Spanish meeting will be at 7 p.m. followed by the English meeting at 8:30 p.m. The location is the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Smithville Tennessee. The address is 981 E. County to Host Town Hall Meeting Concerning Options for Jail/Judicial Center
A town hall meeting!
Got questions about plans for a new jail/judicial center? Get answers during a public forum to be held by the county commission and county mayor on Monday, March 18 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mike Foster Multi-Purpose Center of the county complex.
Stephanie Harding, Detention Facility Manager at the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI); Jim Hart, Jail Consultant and Field Manager of the County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS); John Eisenlau of Treanor Architects and Rick Bruining of Bell Construction, will also be at the meeting.
The public is invited to attend to learn more and ask questions.

4th Annual Project Graduation Car Show
A car show will be held to benefit the DCHS Class of 2024 Project Graduation event on Saturday, April 6 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at DeKalb County High School.
All funds raised will go to Project Graduation, an all-night drug-free, alcohol-free graduation party for members of the DCHS Class of 2024 committed to having a safe, wholesome, yet entertaining celebration together for the last time as a class.
The registration fee is $25.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Judging starts at 11:30 a.m. and awards will be presented at 1 p.m. Vendors and a DJ will be present.

Two Blood Assurance Drives in March
Two Blood Assurance Drives are scheduled this month!
The first blood drive will be Monday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital at 520 West Main Street, Smithville in the bloodmobile followed by a DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors blood drive the same day, Monday March 25 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Smithville Senior Center at 718 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville in the bloodmobile.

Congressman John Rose Announces March Local Office Hour
U.S. Representative John Rose’s (TN-6) district staff member Lou Nave will be in Smithville for a local office hour this month for constituents to connect directly with caseworkers and receive assistance with federal agencies.
During the local office hour, on Thursday, March 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ernest Ray Education Center at 110 South Public Square Smithville, Nave will be available to answer questions and assist you with federal casework, such as social security and veterans’ benefits, steps for obtaining a passport, and more. The local office hour visit occurs monthly. If you have questions, please contact one of Representative Rose’s offices so a staff member may help you.
“We are ready to assist constituents with federal casework and welcome anyone with questions to sit down with staff,” said Representative Rose. “My goal is to make the expertise of my staff and the resources of this office easily accessible to every person I represent.”

The next term of the DeKalb County Grand Jury will meet on Monday, March 25.
“It is the duty of your grand jurors to investigate any public offense which they know or have reason to believe has been committed and which is triable or indictable in the county. Any person having knowledge or proof that an offense has been committed may apply to testify before the grand jury subject to the provisions of Tennessee Code Annotated 40-12-105. The foreman in this county is presently Ms. Katherine Pack, 1 Public Square, Room 201, Smithville, Tennessee, 37166.” said DeKalb Circuit Court Clerk Susan Martin.
“The grand jury will next meet on Monday, the 25th day of March, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.. You may be prosecuted for perjury for any oral or written statement which you make under oath to the grand jury, when you know the statement to be false, and when the statement touches on a matter material to the point in question,” she said.

Circuit Court Clerk Announces Temporary Change in Office Hours to Attend Training
The DeKalb County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office has announced a temporary change in office hours from January 19 to April 1 in order for the staff to participate in some mandatory training.
“The State of Tennessee is requesting for now, requiring in the near future, that all Clerk’s Offices implement a new juvenile case system called Quest that will be a paperless system in the near future,” said Circuit Court Clerk Susan Martin. “This new system will “go LIVE” on April 1 here in DeKalb County. Every week from now until April 1st we will close the office for 90 minutes to attend this mandatory training,” she said.

DeKalb County School Calendar for 2024
DeKalb County Schools will be closed for spring break March 25-29. Schools will also be closed Monday, April 1. The DCHS graduation is set for Friday, May 10. The last day of school will be May 21, 2024. May 20 will be an abbreviated day. Report cards will be issued at all schools on May 21. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on March 19 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on March 21. The DCHS Prom will be April 12
