Murfreesboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division Violent Crimes detectives are still investigating what led to a road rage shooting that left a DeKalb County man dead and another one injured Saturday, April 13.The fatal shooting victim, 49-year-old Paul Howell (shown here), reportedly of Rocky Road Liberty and formerly of South Mountain Street, Smithville was taken to the hospital in Murfreesboro where he later died. A second victim, a 48-year-old man, was shot in the arm and treated for his injury.
On Friday, April 5th, Smithville Elementary had its Careers on Wheels event. Participants parked in the parking lot and spoke to all students about their careers. They had hands on activities and gifts for the students. The participants were: DeKalb Sheriff’s Department,
Smithville Police, Sissy’s Donut Truck, Smithville Electric, TWRA, Smithville Fire Department,
DeKalb Emergency Services, DTC Communications,Tri Green- Davey Britton, and Middle TN Natural Gas

DCHS senior, Kaleb Spears, broke his own school record in the 400 meter dash on Tuesday April 9th at the Patriot Invitational at Oakland High School.   This is the third time that Spears has surpassed this mark.  His time of 50.54 is now seeded 17th in the State and 2nd in the region.
